The state-of-the-art integrations and applications of the analytic hierarchy process

" Industry 4.0 " is recognized as the future of industrial production in which concepts as Smart Factory and Decentralized Decision Making are fundamental. This paper proposes a novel strategy to support decentralized decision, whilst identifying opportunities and challenges of Industry 4.0 contextualizing the potential that represents industrial digitalization and how technological advances can contribute for a new perspective on manufacturing production. It is analysed a set of barriers to the full implementation of Industry 4.0 vision, identifying areas in which decision support is vital. Then, for each of the identified areas, the authors propose a strategy, characterizing it together with the level of complexity that is involved in the different processes. The strategies proposed are derived from the needs of two of Industry 4.0 main characteristics: horizontal integration and vertical integration. For each case, decision approaches are proposed concerning the type of decision required (strategic, tactical, operational and real-time). Validation results are provided together with a discussion on the main challenges that might be an obstacle for a successful decision strategy.

Performance evaluation of collaboration in the design process

Application of fuzzy-analytic hierarchical process (fuzzy-AHP) has been growing continuously to select the best alternative. In the fuzzy-AHP approach, first the complex problem is itemized into a hierarchical structure for pairwise comparisons. Once a comparison matrix is formed, a triangular fuzzy number concept is adopted to assign priority weights with a view to capture the inherent vagueness in linguistic terms of the decision-maker. In evaluation, if two triangular fuzzy numbers are not intersecting $$({ t}_{11}- { t}_{23}\ge ~0)$$
 , then corresponding degree of possibility value is assumed to be zero (0). However, such situation simply represents the case of one criterion being immensely stronger than other and should not receive a zero value. In this regard, the article proposes an enhanced fuzzy-AHP approach where the triangles are extended about x-axis. This allows developing a mathematical formulation to estimate the true values of height of ordinate (degree of possibility). The empirical study of ranking the SECI modes in the order they influence the performance of the detailed design phase is considered to demonstrate the applicability and usefulness of the proposed framework. In order to measure the performance, five criteria are selected based on a rigorous literature review. After stringent experimentation, it is found that combination and externalization modes highly influence but other modes in order of internalization and socialization loosely have an effect on underlying phase.

Study on Method of Robust Multidisciplinary Collaborative Decision for Product Design

Successful product design depends on the ability to effectively manage and share engineering knowledge and experience throughout the entire development process. Thus, this paper presents a distributed engineering knowledge management approach for the practice of collaborative product design. Firstly, by combining meta-knowledge with XML based topic maps (XTM), a heterogeneous knowledge integration model in collaborative product design is proposed. Then, based on the knowledge integration model and characteristics of collaboration product design, a knowledge management-oriented collaborative work process model is built and a knowledge management framework in collaborative design is developed. Finally, a knowledge management system in collaborative design is constructed.

Study on engineering knowledge management in collaborative product design

Multidisciplinary collaborative decision of product design is modeled as a constraint satisfaction problem and a new hybrid algorithm which combined chaotic search with immune algorithm is developed to solve the model. The meticulous searching capability of chaotic algorithm can keep immune algorithm from stunning into local optimum and find global optimal design solution. For the fitness evaluation of antibody, a probabilistic method was adopted to deal with constraints in place of traditional punishment function approach, thus the problem that the punishment coefficient is difficult to determine can be solved effectively. Optimization design result of a rotor system validated correctness and efficiency of hybrid algorithm.
