Acetate Production from Anaerobic Oxidation of Methane via Intracellular Storage Compounds.
TL;DR: A microbial culture dominated by Candidatus 'Methanoperedens nitroreducens', an anaerobic methanotrophic archaeon, anaerobically oxidizes methane to produce acetate indirectly via reaction intermediate(s), when nitrate or nitrite is supplied as an electron acceptor under a rate-limiting condition.

Simultaneous nitrate and sulfate dependent anaerobic oxidation of methane linking carbon, nitrogen and sulfur cycles.
Wen-Bo Nie,Jie Ding,Guo-Jun Xie,Xin Tan,Yang Lu,Lai Peng,Bing-Feng Liu,Defeng Xing,Zhiguo Yuan,Nanqi Ren +9 more
TL;DR: Simultaneous nitrate- and sulfate-dependent AOM can be mediated by a clade of ANME archaea, which may occur in estuaries and coastal zones, at the interface of marine and freshwater environments enriched with sulfate and nitrate.

Distinct microbially induced concrete corrosion at the tidal region of reinforced concrete sewers.
Yarong Song,Yimei Tian,Xuan Li,Jing Wei,Haiya Zhang,Philip L. Bond,Zhiguo Yuan,Guangming Jiang +7 more
TL;DR: The applications of advanced mineral and microbial analytical techniques were demonstrated effective in improving the understanding of concrete sewer corrosion, and the physical-chemical characteristics in tidal regions varied with the distance from the wastewater surface.

Anaerobic Oxidation of Methane Coupled with Dissimilatory Nitrate Reduction to Ammonium Fuels Anaerobic Ammonium Oxidation.
Wen-Bo Nie,Jie Ding,Guo-Jun Xie,Lu Yang,Lai Peng,Xin Tan,Bing-Feng Liu,Defeng Xing,Zhiguo Yuan,Nanqi Ren +9 more
TL;DR: This work demonstrated n-DAMO archaea coupling the anaerobic oxidation of methane to DNRA, which fueled Anammox in a methane-fed membrane biofilm reactor with nitrate as only electron acceptor, and produced ammonium from nitrate rather than from external nitrite.

Modelling the long-term effect of wastewater compositions on maximum sulfide and methane production rates of sewer biofilm
TL;DR: Empirical equations describing the long-term effect of sulfate and sCOD (soluble chemical oxygen demand) concentrations on kH2S and kCH4, the maximum sulfide production rate of sewer biofilm, were proposed and require further verification in future studies before their potential integration into network-wide sewer models.
