Efficient production of deoxynucleoside-5′-monophosphates using deoxynucleoside kinase coupled with a GTP-regeneration system
TL;DR: The high yield indicated that this process of biosynthesis of 5′-dAMP, 4,6-diaminopurine deoxynucleoside-5′-monophosphate, or 5-dCMP was efficient and economical, and this one-pot system may also potentially be used for the preparation of other types of 5″-dNMPs.

A peptide-based coating toolbox to enable click chemistry on polymers, metals, and silicon through sortagging.
Maximilian Nöth,Maximilian Nöth,Zhi Zou,Zhi Zou,Islam El-Awaad,Islam El-Awaad,Letícia Celia de Lencastre Novaes,Guilherme Dilarri,Mehdi D. Davari,Henrique Ferreira,Felix Jakob,Felix Jakob,Ulrich Schwaneberg,Ulrich Schwaneberg +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a toolbox for surface functionalization was established by a combination of a universal material binding peptide (LCI-anchor peptide) and sortase-mediated bioconjugation (sortagging).

Engineering of Laccase CueO for Improved Electron Transfer in Bioelectrocatalysis by Semi‐Rational Design
Lingling Zhang,Haiyang Cui,Gaurao V. Dhoke,Zhi Zou,Zhi Zou,Daniel F. Sauer,Mehdi D. Davari,Ulrich Schwaneberg,Ulrich Schwaneberg +8 more
TL;DR: Copper efflux oxidase from Escherichia coli is a special bacterial laccase due to its fifth copper binding site that plays a crucial and favorable role of electron relay in bioelectrocatalytic oxygen reduction, and substituting the residues at the four coordinated positions of the fifth Cu identifies beneficial variants.

Designed Streptococcus pyogenes Sortase A Accepts Branched Amines as Nucleophiles in Sortagging.
Zhi Zou,Zhi Zou,Maximilian Nöth,Maximilian Nöth,Felix Jakob,Felix Jakob,Ulrich Schwaneberg,Ulrich Schwaneberg +7 more
TL;DR: A rational design of Streptococcus pyogenes sortase A for improved transpeptidase activity toward different N-terminal amino acid residues was conducted and variant SpSrtA M3 showed up to 6.6-fold enhanced catalytic efficiency.

Enhancing Robustness of Sortase A by Loop Engineering and Backbone Cyclization.
Zhi Zou,Zhi Zou,Diana M. Mate,Diana M. Mate,Maximilian Nöth,Maximilian Nöth,Felix Jakob,Felix Jakob,Ulrich Schwaneberg,Ulrich Schwaneberg +9 more
TL;DR: Loop engineering and subsequent head‐to‐tail backbone cyclization of SaSrtA yielded the cyclized variant CyM6 that has a 7.5 °C increased melting temperature and up to 4.6‐fold increased resistance towards denaturants when compared to the parent rM4.
