The functional IGFBP7 promoter -418G>A polymorphism and risk of head and neck cancer.
TL;DR: It is concluded that the functional variant -418G>C in the IGFBP7 promoter is associated with reduced risk of SCCHN, likely by enhancing the IGF BP7 promoter and DNA-protein binding activities.

A novel functional DEC1 promoter polymorphism −249T>C reduces risk of squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck
Yu Jing Huang,Jiangong Niu,Sheng Wei,Ming Yin,Zhensheng Liu,Li E. Wang,Erich M. Sturgis,Qingyi Wei +7 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that the DEC1 promoter -249 T>C (rs2012775) polymorphism is functional, modulating susceptibility to SCCHN among non-Hispanic Whites and led to a gain of a transcription factor-binding site.
Association between putative functional variants in the PSMB9 gene and risk of melanoma--re-analysis of published melanoma genome-wide association studies
Ji Qian,Hongliang Liu,Sheng Wei,Zhensheng Liu,Yangkai Li,Li E. Wang,Wei V. Chen,Christopher I. Amos,Christopher I. Amos,Jeffrey E. Lee,Mark M. Iles,Matthew Law,Anne E. Cust,Jennifer H. Barrett,Grant W. Montgomery,John C. Taylor,Julia A. Newton Bishop,Stuart MacGregor,D. Timothy Bishop,Graham J. Mann,Nicholas K. Hayward,Qingyi Wei +21 more
TL;DR: The data suggested that functional variants in PSMB9 may contribute to melanoma susceptibility, and SNP rs2071480, which is in high LD with rs1351383 and rs2127675, may have a weak effect on the promoter activity of PS MB9.
Association between a functional polymorphism (-1195T>C) in the IGFBP5 promoter and head and neck cancer risk.
Jiangong Niu,Yu Jing Huang,Sheng Wei,Zhensheng Liu,Li E. Wang,Shine Chang,Robert M. Chamberlain,Adel K. El-Naggar,Erich M. Sturgis,Qingyi Wei +9 more
TL;DR: To the best of the knowledge, no studies to date have evaluated roles of insulin‐like growth factor binding protein 5 (IGFBP5) polymorphisms in risk of squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN).
Variants in melanocortin 1 receptor gene contribute to risk of melanoma – a direct sequencing analysis in a Texas population
Xiaoxiang Guan,Xiaoxiang Guan,Jiangong Niu,Zhensheng Liu,Li E. Wang,Christopher I. Amos,Jeffrey E. Lee,Jeffrey E. Gershenwald,Elizabeth A. Grimm,Qingyi Wei +9 more
TL;DR: Evidence is provided that both common and rare variants in the MC1R coding region may be biomarkers for susceptibility to CM in US populations, and that the three most significant SNPs may be the molecular mechanisms underlying the known risk factors of the colors of the eyes, skin and hair.
