We report on the thermopower of an Aharonov-Bohm (AB) interferometer with a quantum dot in the Kondo regime. The thermopower is anomalously enhanced due to the Kondo effect as in heavy fermion systems. In contrast to bulk systems, the sign of the thermopower can be changed by adjusting the energy level scheme or the particle-hole asymmetry of a dot with the gate voltage. Further the magnitude and even the sign of the thermopower in the AB ring can be changed at will with varying either magnetic fields or the gate voltages.

Thermopower of an Aharonov-Bohm Interferometer: Theoretical Studies of Quantum Dots in the Kondo Regime

Exchange-mediated magnetic blue-shift of the band-gap energy in the antiferromagnetic semiconductor MnTe

The influence of the Rashba spin-orbit interaction (SOI) and longitudinal optical (LO) phonon effect on the ground-state properties of the Frohlich bipolaron in a quantum dot are studied using the Tokuda-modified linear-combination operator method based on the Lee-Low-Pines unitary transformation. The results indicate that, under the condition of strong electron-phonon coupling (coupling strength a > 6), Eint < 0, the electron-phonon coupling body in quantum dot is mainly the bipolaron which is in a stably bound state. The bipolaron interaction energy Eint increases with increasing confinement strength of the quantum dot ω0, electron-phonon coupling strength α, and polaron velocity u and decreases with increasing Coulomb confinement potential s and Rashba spinobit coupling strength αR. In the bipolaron interaction energy Eint, the electron-phonon coupling energy Ee-ph plays the leading role, followed by the confinement potential energy of the quantum dot Ecoul and the Coulomb interaction energy between two electrons Ecouf. Though the additional energy ER-ph caused by the phonon effect accounts for a smaller percentage than the previous three, the electron-phonon coupling and the Rashba spin-obit coupling influence and infiltrate each other. Therefore, the influences of the bipolaron effect and the Rashba electron-spin interaction cannot be ignored when studying a quantum dot.

Influence of the Rashba SOI and LO phonon effects on the interaction energy of the Fröhlich bipolaron in a quantum dot

This paper presents an improved model of thermoelectric power generation, taking into consideration the effect of air heat transfer in a closed cavity between the thermoelectric couples. We have used the ANSYS software, under the condition of different numbers of thermoelectric couples and different models, to simulate numerically and analyze the temperature field and, the voltage field of thermoelectric power generation. Results show that the energy conversion efficiency of 127 pairs of thermoelectric couples increases rapidly as the temperature gradient between the hot and cold ends increases as compared with 1 pair of thermoelectric units; it is enhanced from 0.39% to 5.16% at an average of 3.02% while the temperature gradient varies from 20℃ to 220℃. The output voltage of the chip, power, and energy conversion efficiency would increase as the cross-sectional area increases while the cold junction temperature stays at 305℃, and the cold arm galvanic greater the temperature difference across the greater the increase rate, and thermoelectric power generation chip resistance, along with the cross-sectional area of the galvanic arm decreases. The output power can be up to 28.9W as the temperature difference is 220℃.

Analysis and simulation of semiconductor thermoelectric power generation process

The electrical conductance, thermal conductance, thermal power, and figure of merit $(ZT)$ of semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) embedded into an insulator matrix connected with metallic electrodes are theoretically investigated in the Coulomb blockade regime. The multilevel Anderson model is used to simulate the multiple QDs junction system. The charge and heat currents in the sequential tunneling process are calculated by the Keldysh Green's function technique. In the linear-response regime the $ZT$ values are still very impressive in the small tunneling rates case, although the effect of electron Coulomb interaction on $ZT$ is significant. In the nonlinear-response regime, we have demonstrated that the thermal rectification behavior can be observed for the coupled QDs system, where the very strong asymmetrical coupling between the dots and electrodes, large energy-level separation between dots and strong interdot Coulomb interactions are required.

Thermoelectric and Themorectification properties of quantum dot junctions

We study the thermoelectric effect in a small quantum dot with a magnetic impurity in the Coulomb blockade regime. The electrical conductance, thermal conductance, thermopower, and the thermoelectrical figure of merit (FOM) are calculated by using Green's function method. It is found that the peaks in the electrical conductance are split by the exchange coupling between the electron entering into the dot and the magnetic impurity inside the dot, accompanied by the decrease in the height of peaks. As a result, the resonances in the thermoelectric quantities, such as the thermal conductance, thermopower, and the FOM, are all split, opening some effective new working regions. Despite of the significant reduction in the height of the electrical conductance peaks induced by the exchange coupling, the values of the FOM and the thermopower can be as large as those in the case of zero exchange coupling. We also find that the thermoelectric efficiency, characterized by the magnitude of the FOM, can be enhanced by adjusting the left—right asymmetry of the electrode-dot coupling or by optimizing the system's temperature.
