High growth rate, wear resistant coatings on an Al-Cu-Li alloy by plasma electrolytic oxidation in concentrated aluminate electrolytes.
TL;DR: In this paper, a 2A97 Al-Cu-Li alloy was oxidized under a pulsed bi-polar constant current regime in electrolytes containing 5, 32 and 56 g−l−1 NaAlO2.

Wear-resistant coatings formed on Zircaloy-2 by plasma electrolytic oxidation in sodium aluminate electrolytes
Yingliang Cheng,Jinhui Cao,Zhao-mei Peng,Qun Wang,Endzhe Matykina,Peter Skeldon,G.E. Thompson +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the wear resistance of dilute and concentrated aluminate electrolytes under a pulsed-bipolar current regime, in order to develop coatings of high wear resistance.

Plasma electrolytic oxidation of an Al-Cu-Li alloy in alkaline aluminate electrolytes: A competition between growth and dissolution for the initial ultra-thin films
TL;DR: In this paper, it is proposed that, after the formation of a thin pre-existing film(∼ 1-2μm) on the alloy in less concentrated electrolytes, then thick coatings develop more rapidly in 32.g l−1 NaAlO2+1/g l/1 KOH, since the field assisted dissolution is only prevalent in extremely thin films and retreats quickly as the film thickens.

Two-step micro-arc oxidation method for producing super wear-resistant coating on surface of aluminium alloy
Yingliang Cheng,Jinhui Cao,Zhao-mei Peng +2 more
- 28 May 2014
TL;DR: In this article, a two-step micro-arc oxidation method for producing a super wear-resistant coating on the surface of an aluminium alloy was described, which used the aluminium alloy as a base body and uses the low-concentration and high-conscentration aluminate solutions as mediums, and an aluminium oxide layer with a compact single layer structure was quickly formed through the two-stage microarc oxidation, wherein the content of a corundum component is more than 40%.
