Jean G. Malave,Andrés Lopez,Thi Doan,Emily J. Cicali,Zeruesenay Desta,Caitrin W. McDonough,Larisa A Cavallari +6 more
Rifampin enhances cytochrome P450 (CYP) 2B6-mediated efavirenz 8-hydroxylation in healthy volunteers
Doo-Yeoun Cho,Joan H.Q. Shen,Suzanne Lemler,Todd C. Skaar,Lang Li,Julia Blievernicht,Ulrich M. Zanger,Kwon Bok Kim,Jae-Gook Shin,David A. Flockhart,Zeruesenay Desta +10 more
TL;DR: The metabolism of a single oral dose of efavirenz may be a suitable in vivo marker of CYP2B6 activity to evaluate induction drug interactions involving this enzyme in vivo, and rifampin enhances CYP 2B6-mediated efvirenz 8-hydroxylation in vivo.
Chiral Plasma Pharmacokinetics and Urinary Excretion of Bupropion and Metabolites in Healthy Volunteers
Andrea R. Masters,Brandon T. Gufford,Jessica Bo Li Lu,Ingrid F. Metzger,David R. Jones,Zeruesenay Desta +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, a single oral dose of racemic bupropion (100 mg) was administered to healthy human volunteers, which was followed by collection of plasma and urine samples and determination of bupropions and metabolite concentrations using novel liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry assays.

Composite Functional Genetic and Comedication CYP2D6 Activity Score in Predicting Tamoxifen Drug Exposure Among Breast Cancer Patients. J Clin Pharmacol. 2010;50(4): 450-458
S. Borges,Zeruesenay Desta,Y. Jin,A. Faouzi,J. D. Robarge,S. Philip,Anne T. Nguyen,Vered Stearns,Daniel F. Hayes,James M. Rae,Todd C. Skaar,D. A. Flockhart,Lang Li +12 more
TL;DR: In this article, a novel CYP2D6 scoring system is proposed that incorporates the impact of concomitant medications with the genotype in calculating the CYP 2D6 activity score.
Rapid Identification of the Hepatic Cytochrome P450 2C19 Activity Using a Novel and Noninvasive [13C]Pantoprazole Breath Test
Zeruesenay Desta,Anil S. Modak,Phuong D. Nguyen,S. Lemler,Yasuhisa Kurogi,Lang Li,David A. Flockhart +6 more
TL;DR: The hypothesis that the stable isotope [13C]pantoprazole is O-demethylated by cytochrome P450 CYP2C19 and that the 13CO2 produced and exhaled in breath as a result can serve as a safe, rapid, and noninvasive phenotyping marker of CYP 2C19 activity in vivo is tested and breath test indices are suggested to be a useful tool to optimize drug therapy metabolized by CYP1C19.
