Lipid and metabolite profiles of human brain tumors by desorption electrospray ionization-MS.
Alan K. Jarmusch,Valentina Pirro,Zane Baird,Eyas M. Hattab,Aaron A. Cohen-Gadol,R. Graham Cooks +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a set of lower mass signals, some corresponding to oncometabolites, including 2-hydroxyglutaric acid and N-acetyl-aspartic acid, was observed in the DESI mass spectra, and these data further assisted in discrimination between brain parenchyma and gliomas.

Using Ambient Ion Beams to Write Nanostructured Patterns for Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy
Anyin Li,Zane Baird,Soumabha Bag,Depanjan Sarkar,Anupama Prabhath,Thalappil Pradeep,R. Graham Cooks +6 more
TL;DR: Electrolytic spray deposition was used to pattern surfaces with 2D metallic nanostructures that contain silver nanoparticles (AgNP) and their aggregates can be used for surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS).

Evidence for Many Unique Solution Structures for Chymotrypsin Inhibitor 2: A Thermodynamic Perspective Derived from vT-ESI-IMS-MS Measurements.
Shannon A. Raab,Tarick J. El-Baba,Daniel W. Woodall,Wen Liu,Yang Liu,Zane Baird,David A. Hales,Arthur Laganowsky,David H. Russell,David E. Clemmer +9 more
TL;DR: Detailed energy landscapes derived from these data provide a rare glimpse into Anfinsen's thermodynamic hypothesis and the process of thermal denaturation, normally thought of as a cooperative two-state transition involving the native state and unstructured denatured species.

Identifying extractable profiles from 3D printed medical devices.
TL;DR: This study investigated the extractable profiles of four different materials, including a PLA polymer advertised as “FDA-approved”, and found that the application of an annealing procedure to printed devices led to a substantial decrease in extractable components and an increase in the amount of Pb detected in 3D printed device extracts.

Sample analysis systems and methods of use thereof
R. G. Cooks,Zane Baird,Pu Wei +2 more
- 16 Jun 2015
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a system for analyzing a sample that includes an ion generator configured to generate ions from a sample and an ion separator configured to separate at or above atmospheric pressure the ions received from the ion generator without use of laminar flowing gas.
