The User Requirements Notation (URN), standardized by the International Telecommunication Union in 2008, is used to model and analyze requirements with goals and scenarios. This paper describes the first ten years of development of URN, and discusses ongoing efforts targeting the next ten years. We did a study inspired by the systematic literature review approach, querying five major search engines and using the existing URN Virtual Library. Based on the 281 scientific publications related to URN we collected and analyzed, we observe a shift from a more conventional use of URN for telecommunications and reactive systems to business process management and aspect-oriented modeling, with relevant extensions to the language being proposed. URN also benefits from a global and active research community, although industrial contributions are still sparse. URN is now a leading language for goal-driven and scenario-oriented modeling with a promising future for many application domains.

User Requirements Notation: The First Ten Years, The Next Ten Years (Invited Paper)

Automatic Web services composition can be achieved by using AI planning techniques. HTN planning has been adopted to handle the OWL-S Web service composition problem. However, existing composition methods based on HTN planning have not considered the choice of decompositions available to a problem which can lead to a variety of valid solutions.In this paper, we propose a model of combining a Markov decision process model and HTN planning to address Web services composition. In the model, HTN planning is enhanced to decompose a task in multiple ways and hence be able to find more than one plan,taking both functional and non-functional properties into account. Furthermore, an evaluation method to choose the optimal plan and some experimental results illustrate that the proposed approach works effectively.

Markov-HTN Planning Approach to Enhance Flexibility of Automatic Web Service Composition

Web services promise to allow businesses to adapt rapidly to changes in the business environment, and the needs of different customers. The rapid introduction of new web services into a dynamic business environment can lead to undesirable interactions that negatively impact service quality and user satisfaction. In previous work, we have shown how to model such interactions between web services as feature interactions, and reason about undesirable side-effects of web service composition. In this paper we present the results of subsequent research on a classification of feature interactions among web services. Such a classification is beneficial as we can then search for ways of detecting and resolving each class of feature interaction in a generic manner. To illustrate the interactions we use a fictitious e-commerce scenario.

Towards a classification of web service feature interactions

Security engineering is about protecting assets from harm. The feature interaction problem occurs when the composition of features leads to undesirable system behaviours. Usually, this problem manifests itself as conflicting actions of features on a shared context. Security requirements may be violated by feature interactions creating security vulnerabilities which can potentially be exploited by attackers. In thi sp aper, we discuss the feature interaction problem and some of its possible implications for security requirements. The paper concludes that (1) the detection of the violation of security requirements by feature interactions is not different from other types of requirements - what differs is the impact of such violation; and (2)feature interaction detection approaches can be used as a means for vulnerability analysis.
