In this work, the multiferroic bismuth ferrite materials Bi0.9RE0.1FeO3 doped by rare-earth (RE = La, Eu, and Er) elements were obtained by the solution combustion synthesis. Structure, electrical, and magnetic properties of prepared samples were investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Mossbauer spectroscopy, electrical hysteresis measurement, broadband dielectric spectroscopy, and SQUID magnetometry. All obtained nanomaterials are characterized by spontaneous electrical polarization, which confirmed their ferroelectric properties. Investigation of magnetic properties at 300.0 K and 2.0 K showed that all investigated Bi0.9RE0.1FeO3 ferrites possess significantly higher magnetization in comparison to bismuth ferrites obtained by different methods. The highest saturation magnetisation of 5.161 emu/g at 300.0 K was observed for the BLaFO sample, while at 2.0 K it was 12.07 emu/g for the BErFO sample. Several possible reasons for these phenomena were proposed and discussed.

BiFeO3-Based Lead-Free Materials: Recent Breakthroughs and their Multifunctional Applications

This study investigates the impact of incorporating Eu into 0.8BiFeO3-0.2BaTiO3 ceramics (0.8 (Bi(1-x)EuxFeO3) - 0.2BaTiO3 for x = 0 and 0.05) through cost-effective solid-state sintering. Analyzing structural, microstructural, optical, ferromagnetic, and dielectric properties, it confirms pure perovskite structures exclusively crystallizing in the rhombohedral phase. Eu3+ integration yields homogeneous distribution, reduced grain size (1.57 μm–1.40 μm), and a decreased optical band gap (2.06 ± 0.02 eV to 1.65 ± 0.02 eV). Ferromagnetic properties improve, with remnant magnetization rising from Mr = 0.4406 emu/g to Mr = 0.5096 emu/g. Dielectric analysis identifies grain contributions, and Jonsher low analysis indicates the dominance of the Model of Correlated Barrier Hopping in conduction. The study emphasizes the potential technological applications of Eu-modified 0.8BiFeO3-0.2BaTiO3 ceramics, offering valuable insights into their physical properties. 

Boosting the optical, dielectric, and ferromagnetic properties of BiFeO3–BaTiO3 ceramics by Eu substitution

Abstract As a fission product in high‐level radioactive nuclear waste, Mo has low solubility in borosilicate glass. Fe 2 O 3 is not only a prevalent transition metal element but also a major corrosion product in high‐level radioactive nuclear waste. Against this backdrop, the effect of Fe 2 O 3 content on the structure and chemical durability of typical molybdenum‐containing sodium borosilicate glasses for nuclear waste immobilization are studied. The results show that the samples containing more than 3.85 mol% Fe 2 O 3 , a completely homogenous amorphous glass sample is obtained. Moreover, the mechanism of the effect of Fe 2 O 3 on the solubility of Mo is discussed in detail. In this work, a portion of Fe 3+ is reduced to Fe 2+ and enters into the glasses as a charge compensation ion as Fe 2+ O 6 . Concurrently, Fe 3+ ions contribute to the formation of the glass networks as Fe 3+ O 4 . Iron incorporation can improve the chemical durability of the sample. 

Effect of Fe2O3 on the structure and properties of Mo‐containing borosilicate glasses for nuclear waste immobilization

This work presents the results of BiFeO3 and Bi0.9Eu0.1FeO3 multiferroic materials, synthesized via a simple solid-phase reaction method. Both of the synthesized materials were in the rhombohedral R3c structure as observed by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The presence of a doublet along with a sextet in Mossbauer spectra indicates an impurity phase (Bi2Fe4O9). The presence of Fe2+ ions are confirmed from Mossbauer spectroscopy study in the Bi0.9Eu0.1FeO3 sample. And the Bi0.9Eu0.1FeO3 exhibited a slight lattice distortion, observable from the results of XRD and Mossbauer spectra. We can conclude that growing of crystal homogeneity of Bi0.9Eu0.1FeO3 is better than BiFeO3.
