Transparent electrodes attract intense attention in many technological fields, including optoelectronic devices, transparent film heaters and electromagnetic applications. New generation transparent electrodes are expected to have three main physical properties: high electrical conductivity, high transparency and mechanical flexibility. The most efficient and widely used transparent conducting material is currently indium tin oxide (ITO). However the scarcity of indium associated with ITO's lack of flexibility and the relatively high manufacturing costs have a prompted search into alternative materials. With their outstanding physical properties, metallic nanowire (MNW)-based percolating networks appear to be one of the most promising alternatives to ITO. They also have several other advantages, such as solution-based processing, and are compatible with large area deposition techniques. Estimations of cost of the technology are lower, in particular thanks to the small quantities of nanomaterials needed to reach industrial performance criteria. The present review investigates recent progress on the main applications reported for MNW networks of any sort (silver, copper, gold, core-shell nanowires) and points out some of the most impressive outcomes. Insights into processing MNW into high-performance transparent conducting thin films are also discussed according to each specific application. Finally, strategies for improving both their stability and integration into real devices are presented.

Metallic Nanowire-Based Transparent Electrodes for Next Generation Flexible Devices: a Review

Perovskite oxides with formula ABO3 or A2BO4 are a very important class of functional materials that exhibit a range of stoichiometries and crystal structures. Because of the structural features, they could accommodate around 90% of the metallic natural elements of the Periodic Table that stand solely or partially at the A and/or B positions without destroying the matrix structure, offering a way of correlating solid state chemistry to catalytic properties. Moreover, their high thermal and hydrothermal stability enable them suitable catalytic materials either for gas or solid reactions carried out at high temperatures, or liquid reactions carried out at low temperatures. Engineering of MnO2-based nanocomposites for high-performance supercapacitors

Carbon nanotube (CNT) based biosensors are recognized to be a next generation building block for ultra-sensitive and ultra-fast biosensing systems. This article provides an overview on the recent expansion of research in the field of CNT-based biosensors. We start by first introducing the material structures and properties of CNTs. The basic and some new developed synthetic methods of CNTs are presented. This is followed by a collection of working principle and performance of different CNT-based biosensors. The roles and the processing methods of functionalized CNTs are summarized. After that, some of the practical applications and concerns in the field are addressed. What is more, the scientific and technological challenges in the field are discussed at the end of this review.

Nanoparticles and targeted drug delivery in cancer therapy.

We have successfully prepared α-Fe2O3 nanospheres by solvothermal method using 2-butanone and water mixture solvent for the first time, which were about 100 nm in diameter and composed of very small nanoparticles. The as-prepared samples were characterized using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. The results showed that the product was α-Fe2O3 nanosphere, and the temperature was an important factor on the formation of α-Fe2O3 nanospheres.

The invention discloses a novel method for resource utilization of carbide slag. The method comprises: adding a carbonizing liquid into the carbide slag; particularly, selecting an aqueous solution of carbonate or hydrocarbonate; after stirring reaction, carrying out treatment to obtain grey-white solid powder; and then calcining, cooling and sieving the solid powder to obtain light calcium carbonate. The obtained light calcium carbonate is excellent in whiteness, purity and crystal form and is fine and uniform in grain size, and can be used as filler to be massively applied to building paint.

Platinum clusters were supported on/in HLaNb2O7 nanosheets by topochemical reaction strategy for the first time. The as-prepared samples were analyzed using ICP OES and characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, nitrogen adsorption–desorption isotherms and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The results showed that HLaNb2O7 nanosheets were modified with platinum clusters with good monodispersity. The product was a mesoporous solid with broad pore size distribution and large surface area. The oxidation state of platinum was zero and the size of Pt clusters was only about 1–2 nm. This study provides a novel approach to support metal clusters on layered compounds.
