A review of Internet of Things (IoT) embedded sustainable supply chain for industry 4.0 requirements

Purpose – The auto ancillary industry in India has witnessed huge capacity expansion and modernization due to entry of foreign automobile manufacturers in the post liberalization era. In spite of potential benefits, the adoption of advanced IT among small to medium‐sized enterprises (SMEs) is low in India. There are several technological, economical and organizational factors that enable or inhibit the adoption of advanced IT. The primary objective of this research is to identify and evaluate the key factors that are enabling or inhibiting adoption of advanced IT in the Indian auto ancillary SMEs.Design/methodology/approach – In order to identify and evaluate the enablers and inhibitors, a detailed survey was carried out among registered Indian auto ancillary SMEs during 2010. Enablers and inhibitors of advanced information technologies adoption by SMEs: An empirical study of auto ancillaries in India

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to consolidate the critical success factors (CSFs) as published in enterprise resource planning (ERP) implementation case studies. The authors perform the analysis and propose the final CSFs based on the reported ERP implementation process stages. Design/methodology/approach – The paper follows the eight category coding steps proposed by Carley (1993) and utilizes only ERP implementation case studies to identify a distinct set of critical success factors. The 37 case studies used in this paper provide a reasonable sample from different countries and contexts. Two methodologies were followed, one for the literature review process and the other for the analysis and synthesis. Challenges and Success Factors of ERP Systems in Australian SMEs

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) have played an important role in economic development. The increasing number of SMEs have resulted in the business landscape to become more and more competitive. This has made SMEs to also undergo great challenges to be able to maintain their existence and expand their businesses. It is argued that the enterprise resource planning system (ERPs) can improve business performance. Therefore, the primary purpose of this study is to examine the impact of an ERPs usage on the financial and non-financial performance of the Saudi SMEs. An exploratory study has been used to identify the factors contributing to the effective and successful use of an ERP system. The findings indicate seven contingency factors. Based on the exploratory study results, three hypotheses have been developed and tested in a quantitative study. A survey is constructed and sent to 200 Saudi SMEs that adopted the ERP systems. About 120 valid responses have been received. For data analysis and hypothesis testing, a structural equation modelling (SEM) tool has been adopted. The results depict that management support, user satisfaction, and training significantly impact the ERPs usage. Another significant finding is that ERP systems enhance SMEs’ performance.

The Impact of Enterprise Resource Planning on Business Performance: With the Discussion on Its Relationship with Open Innovation

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine a Chinese small enterprise's failed attempt to adopt enterprise resource planning (ERP) and to identify the critical success factors for these type of projects.Design/methodology/approach – Information was collected through multiple site visits and semi‐structured interviews with key staff of the ERP project, as well as examination of relevant company documentations.Findings – The study identified nine critical success factors and discussed how these factors affected ERP adoption in a small farming feed manufacturing company.Originality/value – Considering very few ERP project failures are recorded in the literature and the majority of existing ERP research in China was in the context of large state‐owned or foreign‐invested companies, this paper represents an early effort to explore the reasons why ERP adoption failed in the case study company.
