Penta-co-ordinate iron (II) oxyporphyrin–2-methylimidazole complex; model of the heme oxygenase reaction
Seiyo Sano,Yukio Sugiura +1 more
TL;DR: The preparation of the iron(II) Oxymesoporphyrin-2-methylimidazole complex, a model of the heme oxygenase reaction, is described and oxidation of this molecule by molecular oxygen to the biliverdin derivative via an intermediate with λmax 670 nm, with the concomitant release of carbon monoxide from the porphyr in skeleton is reported.

The engineering, structure, and DNA binding properties of a novel His4-type zinc finger peptide.
Yuichiro Hori,Kazuo Suzuki,Yasushi Okuno,Makoto Nagaoka,Shiroh Futaki,Yukio Sugiura +5 more
- 01 Oct 2000
TL;DR: The CD and NMR studies reveal that the His4 domain has Zn(II)-dependent folding properties and similar secondary structures to wild-type Cys2His2 domain and DNA binding experiments demonstrate that H4Sp1 can bind DNA in a specific way.

Hydrophobic DNA binding of esperamicin requires conformational distortion of the host DNA.
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that esperamicin binds to DNA with considerably higher affinity in solutions containing organic solvents, indicating that the required distortion of DNA depends on hydrophobic interactions.

Product analyses in DNA strand scission by antitumor antibiotic elsamicin A.
Motonari Uesugi,Yukio Sugiura +1 more
TL;DR: The results lead to the conclusion that the hydroxyl radical formed in Fe(II)-elsamicin A plus dithiothreitol system oxidizes the deoxyribose moiety via hydrogen abstraction predominantly at the C-4' carbon of the de oxygenribose backbone and ultimately produces strand breakage of DNA.
