How to combine different types of prefabricated components in a building to reduce construction costs and carbon emissions?

The location and capacity of precast concrete component factories (PC component factories) are not only the key factors for manufacturers to gain competitive advantage, but also the important factors affecting the operational efficiency of the prefabricated construction supply chain. This paper takes the capacitated location problem of PC component factories as the research object. Drawing on the model of traditional capacitated plant location problem, the model of capacitated location problem of PC component factories is constructed by setting the optional production scale by stages. According to the characteristics of this model, the optimal strategy of location is determined by using the Tabu search algorithm. Taking the location problem of PC component factory in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region as the object, the calculation example is designed, in which the influence of the distance parameters on the results of location problem is analyzed. The results can make the configuration of regional PC component factories more reasonable and balanced.

The capacitated location problem of precast concrete component factory

This study aims to help managers develop a proper strategy and policy for their company’s future. After the global COVID-19 pandemic, developed countries decided to change their production and relocate and re-industrialize. The U.S.’s big electronics and automobile companies are not an exception to this rule. The lithium batteries are the main instrument of mobile phone and electric vehicles. The leading lithium battery supplier for the U.S mobile phone companies is China. Argentina, Bolivia, and Chile (in South America) have some of the largest lithium mines in the world; these countries are known as the lithium triangle. Among the 86 million tonnes of lithium resources worldwide, 49.9 million tonnes exist in this area. The researchers in this study surveyed the best country for constructing a battery for companies in the U.S. Because of the growth of electric vehicles and their use of the lithium battery, the world is facing astronomical prices for lithium. To emphasize this issue and help managers create good policy, this study combined multiple methods. The improved suitability-feasibility-acceptability (SFA) strategy is integrated with the Bayesian best-worst method (BBWM) and measurement of alternatives and rankings according to compromise solution (MARCOS) multicriteria methods to determine the best destination. For comparison, based on the SFA strategy, seven criteria are introduced: commercially viable reserves, national minimum wage, corporate income tax, accessibility to mining companies, accessibility to the waterway, population, and political stability index. The Bayesian BWM analysis reveals that the foremost factor is corporate income tax, whereas MARCOS’s findings indicate that Chile is the best country to construct the lithium battery industry. To verify the proposed approach, a comparison analysis also is performed.

Challenges in the green building supply chain: multi-objective planning for prefabricated factory site selection

In prefabricated buildings, there are numerous types of prefabricated components, forming a complex combination of schemes that are difficult to select. Therefore, this article takes prefabricated components combination schemes as the object. By constructing the evaluation index system through four aspects of assembly rate, cost, duration, and carbon footprint, then using the fuzzy gray correlation projection method to evaluate and select. A residential in Wuhan, China, was enlisted to conduct a case study to show the application of the proposed method. Results indicate that among the six choices, the L scheme is optimal, and the selection order of the prefabricated components in different scenarios is ranked. The results reveal that the method has good applicability, simultaneously provides a reasonable and effective reference for each participant of the assembled building when making scheme comparison, and also provides a new method for the evaluation study of prefabricated component combination schemes. 

Prefabricated concrete components combination schemes selection based on comprehensive benefits analysis

In China, with the expansion of the prefabricated construction market, the demand for precast concrete (PC) components is increasing and the construction of production plants to meet this need is expanding. To address the problem of siting PC component plants in China's construction industry, a combination of qualitative and quantitative analysis using principal component analysis (PCA) and geographic information system (GIS) is proposed for their siting. Taking the site selection process of a PC component plant in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China as an example, the diamond model is combined with six dimensions of environmental factors, requirements, regional competition, related and supporting industries, technological innovation and policies and regulations to construct an indicator system for PC component plant site selection. In the preliminary selection stage, PCA was applied to analyze the site selection indexes to obtain the overall score and ranking of each district for the selection of PC component plants in Wuhan, and it was concluded that three districts, namely, Xinzhou, Hannan, and Huangpi, were more suitable for the construction of component plants. In the precise selection stage, based on the availability of data, Hannan was selected among the three areas suitable for site selection for GIS analysis, using the visual-spatial analysis function of GIS to quantify the four geographical information indicators of environmental factors, and the results showed that Area C in Hannan was the most suitable area. The results show that the method has high accuracy and good applicability.
