In this study, the calculability of slope stability using the artificial neural networks (ANN) method was examined. Initially, 100 synthetic slope models were created to be used in calculations and the factors of safety of these slopes were calculated by a conventional stability calculation method using slope parameters. Then, factors of safety were calculated by through ANN method. 80 of the datasets from the generated data were used for training while 20 were used for testing in these calculations with the ANN method. In both conventional calculation of stability and the ANN method, input parameters included slope height, height of the water level, slope angle, unit weight, cohesion and angle of internal friction, while the output parameter was factor of safety (SF). A good level of consistency was obtained between the SFs calculated through the conventional method and the ANN method. Furthermore, SFs were calculated separately via the ANN method by assigning range values to unit weight, cohesion and angle of internal friction from amongst the parameters that affect SF for Giresun landslides (Eastern Turkey). The data obtained in this scope revealed that cohesion was the parameter with the highest level of effect on SF. Consequently, it was established that the factors of safety of slopes could be calculated by means of the ANN method in a rapid and convenient manner, the effects of slope parameters on the factors of safety in landslide were examined and the factors of safety for Giresun landslides were calculated through the ANN method.

Assessing the factor of safety using an artificial neural network: case studies on landslides in Giresun, Turkey

Construction site managers could benefit from being able to visualize on-site construction objects. Radio frequency identification (RFID) technology has been shown to improve the efficiency of construction object management. The objective of this study is to develop a 3D-Web-GIS RFID location sensing system for construction objects. An RFID 3D location sensing algorithm combining Simulated Annealing (SA) and a gradient descent method is proposed to determine target object location. In the algorithm, SA is used to stabilize the search process and the gradient descent method is used to reduce errors. The locations of the analyzed objects are visualized using the 3D-Web-GIS system. A real construction site is used to validate the applicability of the proposed method, with results indicating that the proposed approach can provide faster, more accurate, and more stable 3D positioning results than other location sensing algorithms. The proposed system allows construction managers to better understand worksite status, thus enhancing managerial efficiency.

3D-Web-GIS RFID Location Sensing System for Construction Objects

Mining activities can cause mining hazards, among them land subsidence occurring in mine areas and their vicinities. Mining-induced surface subsidence is often quantified by traditional geodetic surveying with an advantage of high accuracy, but it is usually applied in small areas. With the development of radar technology, there have been many studies applying radar interferometry technique to determine surface subsidence over wide areas at a few millimeters accuracy. In this paper, 24 Sentinel-1 SAR images are used with the persistent scatterer InSAR method to determine land subsidence of the Phugiao quarries and surrounding areas. The results are compared with average annual subsidence of 13 surveying points at the Phugiao1 mine and 16 surveying points at the Phugiao2 mine measured by global navigation satellite system (GNSS) technology from January 2018 to March 2020. The correlation coefficients of annually average land subsidence of the two methods are 0.93 and 0.82 at the two areas (Phugiao1 and Phugiao2), respectively, indicating the feasibility of applying InSAR Sentinel-1 data with the persistent scatterer InSAR method to determine surface deformation in quarries in Vietnam.

Mining-Induced Land Subsidence Detection by Persistent Scatterer InSAR and Sentinel-1: Application to Phugiao Quarries, Vietnam

This paper has collected 7 scenes of L band PALSAR sensor radar data of a mine in FengCheng city, jiangxi province, using the Small-baseline Subset (SBAS) method to invert the surface subsidence of the mine. Baselines of interference less than 800m has been chosen to constitute short baseline differential interference atlas, using pixels whose average coherent coefficient was larger than or equal to 0.3 as like high coherent point target, using singular value decomposition (SVD) method to calculate deformation phase sequence based on these high coherent points, and the accumulation of settlements of study area of different period had been obtained, so as to reflect the ground surface settlement evolution of the settlement of the area. The results of the study has showed that: SBAS technology has overcome coherent problem of the traditionality D-InSAR technique, continuous deformation field of surface mining in time dimension of time could been obtained, characteristics of ground surface settlement of mining subsidence in different period has been displayed, so to improve the accuracy and reliability of the monitoring results.

And some useful experiences were got about application of GPS technology in Marine construction survey.

The marine surveying is one of the branches of geomatics, and the sea navigational affairs project construction belongs to the marine surveying application category. The advent of GPS technology creates a new high-tech avenue for marine surveying. This paper mainly discussed the application of GPS-RTK technologies in marine surveying. Taking the project of Yangkou man-made island in Nantong city as an example, it was introduced that the main job and work procedure of GPS technologies in under-water survey and steel sheet pile implementing the localization. Problems need to be cared during the procedure and how to solve them also were being discussed. And also some beneficial experiences of GPS technology applying in marine surveying were summarized.

Analysis on the Application of GPS-RTK Technology using in Yangkou man-made Island in Nantong City

How to accurately predict the occurrence of landslides, and it has become one of the troubles in the mining process. The author made a brief introduction of artificial neural network and BP network model in this paper, and also analysis some important problems, such as the parameters selecting, data collecting, processing and network constituting by using the study and forecast samples which from the slope stability of Fuzhou Jin-An Uranium Industry Limited Company, and then setting a prediction model. This paper discusses the slope stability methods and its effectiveness based on the BP neural network. Examples of calculation shows that the using of artificial neural network approaching to the stability of the slope of the forecast can made satisfactory results through the training sample test. This model provides a viable method for the future stability of the slope of such evaluation. At the same time, the feasibility of the application for the neural network in the mine slope stability is proved.
