Conductive microfibers play a significant role in the flexibility, stretchability, and conductivity of electronic skin (e-skin). Currently, the fabrication of conductive microfibers suffers from either time-consuming and complex operations or is limited in complex fabrication environments. Thus, it presents a one-step method to prepare conductive hydrogel microfibers based on microfluidics for the construction of ultrastretchable e-skin. The microfibers are achieved with conductive MXene cores and hydrogel shells, which are solidified with the covalent cross-linking between sodium alginate and calcium chloride, and mechanically enhanced by the complexation reaction of poly(vinyl alcohol) and sodium hydroxide. The microfiber conductivities are tailorable by adjusting the flow rate and concentration of core and shell fluids, which is essential to more practical applications in complex scenarios. More importantly, patterned e-skin based on conductive hydrogel microfibers can be constructed by combining microfluidics with 3D printing technology. Because of the great advantages in mechanical and electrical performance of the microfibers, the achieved e-skin shows impressive stretching and sensitivity, which also demonstrate attractive application values in motion monitoring and gesture recognition. These characteristics indicate that the ultrastretchable e-skin based on conductive hydrogel microfibers has great potential for applications in health monitoring, wearable devices, and smart medicine.

Ultrastretchable E-Skin Based on Conductive Hydrogel Microfibers for Wearable Sensors.

Fabrication Techniques and Sensing Mechanisms of Textile-Based Strain Sensors: From Spatial 1D and 2D Perspectives

Recently, the health problems faced by sedentary workers have received increasing attention. In this study, a pressure sensor based on a poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS)/carboxylated chitosan (CCS)/carboxylated multiwalled carbon nanotube (cMWCNT) sponge was prepared to realize a portable, sensitive, comfortable, and noninvasive healthcare monitoring system for sedentary workers. The proposed piezoresistive pressure sensor exhibited exceptional sensing performances with high sensitivity (147.74 kPa-1), an ultrawide detection range (22 Pa to 1.42 MPa), and reliable stability (over 3000 cycles). Furthermore, the obtained sensor displayed superior capability in detecting various human motion signals. Based on the 4 × 4 sensing array and multilayer perceptron (MLP) algorithm model, a smart cushion was developed to recognize five types of sitting postures and supply timely reminders to sedentary workers. The piezoresistive sponge pressure sensor proposed in this study reveals promising potential in the fields of wearable electronics, healthcare monitoring, and human-machine interface applications.

Multilayer Perceptron Algorithm-Assisted Flexible Piezoresistive PDMS/Chitosan/cMWCNT Sponge Pressure Sensor for Sedentary Healthcare Monitoring.

Electronic skin (e-skin), a skin-like wearable electronic device, holds great promise in the fields of telemedicine and personalized healthcare because of its good flexibility, biocompatibility, skin conformability, and sensing performance. E-skin can monitor various health indicators of the human body in real time and over the long term, including physical indicators (exercise, respiration, blood pressure, etc.) and chemical indicators (saliva, sweat, urine, etc.). In recent years, the development of various materials, analysis, and manufacturing technologies has promoted significant development of e-skin, laying the foundation for the application of next-generation wearable medical technologies and devices. Herein, we discuss the properties required for e-skin health monitoring devices to achieve long-term and precise monitoring and summarize several detectable indicators in the health monitoring field. Subsequently, the applications of integrated e-skin health monitoring systems are reviewed. Finally, current challenges and future development directions in this field are discussed. This review is expected to generate great interest and inspiration for the development and improvement of e-skin and health monitoring systems. This article is protected by copyright. Electronic Skin for Health Monitoring Systems: Properties, Functions and Applications.

With the rapid development of portable electronic products, smart wearable devices show great application potential in personalized motion monitoring, health monitoring and even in human-machine interaction. In particular, high-performance flexible fiber-shaped strain sensors are receiving more and more attention because they can be well integrated with clothes or human skin for real-time human activities monitoring. However, achieving improved sensitivity, wide detection range, diverse applications and easy operation of them remains a challenge. Here, we adopt a simple wet-spinning technique to prepare a porous fiber-shaped carbon nanotubes (CNTs)/silver nanoparticles (AgNPs)/thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) fiber (CATF) for high-performance strain sensor, of which the synergistic conductive network of CNTs and AgNPs enables a wide detection range (∼248 %), high sensitivity (GF > 4295), fast response/recovery time (120 ms/140 ms) and excellent stability. Interestingly, strain sensing range and sensitivity of the sensor can be tuned by changing the AgNPs loading to make it suitable for different application scenarios. All the merits of the sensor make it capable for diverse human movements monitoring, pronunciation recognition, and gesture recognition. More importantly, our prepared CATF strain sensor can be easily weaved into wearable smart textiles, showing great potential for tactile sensing to realize multi-touch and pressure tracking. Finally, the CATF also displays efficient photothermal conversion capability even under different tensile strains up to 150 %, showing great potential in human body thermal management to improve the wearing comfort of wearable electronic fabric. 

Tunable porous fiber-shaped strain sensor with synergistic conductive network for human motion recognition and tactile sensing

As an important component of wearable and stretchable strain sensors, dual-mode strain sensors can respond to deformation via optical/electrical dual-signal changes, which have important applications in human motion monitoring. However, realizing a fiber-shaped dual-mode strain sensor that can work stably in real life remains a challenge. Here, we design an interactive dual-mode fiber strain sensor with both mechanochromic and mechanoelectrical functions that can be applied to a variety of different environments. The dual-mode fiber is produced by coating a transparent elastic conductive layer onto photonic fiber composed of silica particles and elastic rubber. The sensor has visualized dynamic color change, a large strain range (0-80%), and a high sensitivity (1.90). Compared to other dual-mode strain sensors based on the photonic elastomer, our sensor exhibits a significant advantage in strain range. Most importantly, it can achieve reversible and stable optical/electrical dual-signal outputs in response to strain under various environmental conditions. As a wearable portable device, the dual-mode fiber strain sensor can be used for real-time monitoring of human motion, realizing the direct interaction between users and devices, and is expected to be used in fields such as smart wearable, human-machine interactions, and health monitoring.

It summarized the basic principle and characteristics of the rotational molding technology. Based on the experiment of the single axis device the processing of rotational molding was studied and predigested. Especially the heat transfer during rotational molding was analysed and a detailed mathematic model was presented. The heating time of mold and the heating time of resin material was resolved. We also brought forward the solution of analysing the function of time, radius and distribution about melting process.
