The demand of applying semantic segmentation model on mobile devices has been increasing rapidly. Current state-of-the-art networks have enormous amount of parameters hence unsuitable for mobile devices, while other small memory footprint models follow the spirit of classification network and ignore the inherent characteristic of semantic segmentation. To tackle this problem, we propose a novel Context Guided Network (CGNet), which is a light-weight and efficient network for semantic segmentation. We first propose the Context Guided (CG) block, which learns the joint feature of both local feature and surrounding context effectively and efficiently, and further improves the joint feature with the global context. Based on the CG block, we develop CGNet which captures contextual information in all stages of the network. CGNet is specially tailored to exploit the inherent property of semantic segmentation and increase the segmentation accuracy. Moreover, CGNet is elaborately designed to reduce the number of parameters and save memory footprint. Under an equivalent number of parameters, the proposed CGNet significantly outperforms existing light-weight segmentation networks. Extensive experiments on Cityscapes and CamVid datasets verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach. Specifically, without any post-processing and multi-scale testing, the proposed CGNet achieves 64.8% mean IoU on Cityscapes with less than 0.5 M parameters.

CGNet: A Light-weight Context Guided Network for Semantic Segmentation

Referring image segmentation aims to segment a referent via a natural linguistic expression. Due to the distinct data properties between text and image, it is challenging for a network to well align text and pixel-level features. Existing approaches use pretrained models to facilitate learning, yet separately transfer the language/vision knowledge from pretrained models, ignoring the multi-modal corresponding information. Inspired by the recent advance in Contrastive Language-Image Pretraining (CLIP), in this paper, we propose an end-to-end CLIP-Driven Referring Image Segmen-tation framework (CRIS). To transfer the multi-modal knowledge effectively, CRIS resorts to vision-language decoding and contrastive learning for achieving the text-to-pixel alignment. More specifically, we design a vision-language decoder to propagate fine-grained semantic information from textual representations to each pixel-level activation, which promotes consistency between the two modalities. In addition, we present text-to-pixel contrastive learning to explicitly enforce the text feature similar to the related pixel-level features and dissimilar to the irrelevances. The experimental results on three benchmark datasets demonstrate that our proposed framework significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art performance without any post-processing.

CRIS: CLIP-Driven Referring Image Segmentation

M-FFN: multi-scale feature fusion network for image captioning

Artificial intelligence for graphs has achieved remarkable success in modelling complex systems, ranging from dynamic networks in biology to interacting particle systems in physics. However, the increasingly heterogeneous graph datasets call for multimodal methods that can combine different inductive biases — assumptions that algorithms use to make predictions for inputs they have not encountered during training. Learning on multimodal datasets is challenging because the inductive biases can vary by data modality and graphs might not be explicitly given in the input. To address these challenges, graph artificial intelligence methods combine different modalities while leveraging cross-modal dependencies through geometric relationships. Diverse datasets are combined using graphs and fed into sophisticated multimodal architectures, specified as image-intensive, knowledge-grounded and language-intensive models. Using this categorization, we introduce a blueprint for multimodal graph learning, use it to study existing methods and provide guidelines to design new models. One of the main advances in deep learning in the past five years has been graph representation learning, which enabled applications to problems with underlying geometric relationships. Increasingly, such problems involve multiple data modalities and, examining over 160 studies in this area, Ektefaie et al. propose a general framework for multimodal graph learning for image-intensive, knowledge-grounded and language-intensive problems.

Recently, context reasoning using image regions beyond local convolution has shown great potential for scene parsing. In this work, we explore how to incorperate the linguistic knowledge to promote context reasoning over image regions by proposing a Graph Interaction unit (GI unit) and a Semantic Context Loss (SC-loss). The GI unit is capable of enhancing feature representations of convolution networks over high-level semantics and learning the semantic coherency adaptively to each sample. Specifically, the dataset-based linguistic knowledge is first incorporated in the GI unit to promote context reasoning over the visual graph, then the evolved representations of the visual graph are mapped to each local representation to enhance the discriminated capability for scene parsing. GI unit is further improved by the SC-loss to enhance the semantic representations over the exemplar-based semantic graph. We perform full ablation studies to demonstrate the effectiveness of each component in our approach. Particularly, the proposed GINet outperforms the state-of-the-art approaches on the popular benchmarks, including Pascal-Context and COCO Stuff.

With the increase of roads and vehicles, the number of traffic accidents has gradually increased, and one of the important reasons is the driver’s unsafe driving behavior. Some existing methods rely on the method of joint point estimation to identify driving behavior. This kind of method can filter out unrelated components such as background, but the joint point estimation can only give the position information of human behavior, which cannot fully describe the human body, so we try to solve this problem. For one thing, we propose a driver behavior recognition method based on human parsing which can quickly and accurately recognize the driver’s unsafe behavior. For another thing, we build a trucker behavior dataset (TB dataset) with 700 videos and improve a human body segmentation model with higher precision. Finally, we achieve 93.39% and 91.32% accurate for recognizing driving with one-hand and no-hand. At the same time, we get 98.75% accuracy for recognizing driving with turned head by using ResNet50 model.

Trucker Behavior Security Surveillance Based on Human Parsing

Human parsing is an essential branch of semantic segmentation, which is a fine-grained semantic segmentation task to identify the constituent parts of human. The challenge of human parsing is to extract effective semantic features to resolve deformation and multi-scale variations. In this work, we proposed an end-to-end model called C-DLinkNet based on LinkNet, which contains a new module named Smooth Module to combine the multi-level features in Decoder part. C-DLinkNet is capable of producing competitive parsing performance compared with the state-of-the-art methods with smaller input sizes and no additional information, i.e., achiving mIoU=53.05 on the validation set of LIP dataset.
