Self-assembled gels of Fe-chitosan/montmorillonite nanosheets: Dye degradation by the synergistic effect of adsorption and photo-Fenton reaction

In this research, cobalt ferrite (CF)-reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and CF-carbon nanotube (CNT) nanocomposites were successfully prepared through a facile co-precipitation method at a low temperature. The structure, microstructure, magnetic, optical and photocatalytic properties of the as-prepared nanocomposite samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), Photoluminescence (PL) spectrometer and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The mean particle size and saturation magnetization were decreased by the addition of rGO and CNT to the CF. The band gap of the CF decreased from 1.55 to 1.50 and 1.45 eV in presence of rGO and CNT, respectively. The recombination rate of photo-induced electron-hole pairs was further decreased by CNT compared to the rGO. A detailed study on the mechanism and kinetics of dark adsorption and photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB) aqueous solutions by different samples was done. The degradation results were ﬁtted with a high degree of correlation to the Langmuir-Hinshelwood (L-H) model and those for adsorption to the Langmuir model. CF-CNT nanocomposite showed the highest dark adsorption capacity and MB degradation efficiency in all MB concentrations. For the degradation of 10 mg/L methylene blue (MB) solution under visible light, the photocatalytic efﬁciency of CF-CNT nanocomposite reached 97% within 180 min of reaction time, which was 1.8 times higher than that of CF-rGO nanocomposite and up to 2.5 times than that for pure CF nanoparticles. The remarkable visible light photocatalytic performance CF-CNT nanocomposite with a maximum kinetic rate constant was mainly attributed to the structural, morphological and optical properties. According to the reusability test, only a slight decrease of 4% was observed after the third cycle.

Adsorption and photocatalytic characteristics of cobalt ferrite-reduced graphene oxide and cobalt ferrite-carbon nanotube nanocomposites

Two series of dehydroabietyl-1,2,4-triazole-4-Schiff-based derivatives were synthesized from rosin to control plant fungal diseases. In vitro evaluation and screening of the antifungal activity were performed using Valsa mali, Colletotrichum orbiculare, Fusarium graminearum, Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, and Gaeumannomyces graminis. Compound 3f showed excellent fungicidal activity against V. mali (EC50 = 0.537 μg/mL), which was significantly more effective than the positive control fluconazole (EC50 = 4.707 μg/mL). Compound 3f also had a considerable protective effect against V. mali (61.57%-92.16%), which was slightly lower than that of fluconazole (85.17-100%) at 25-100 μg/mL. Through physiological and biochemical analyses, the preliminary mode of action of compound 3f against V. mali was explored. Ultrastructural observation of mycelia showed that compound 3f hindered the growth of the mycelium and destroyed the ultrastructure of V. mali seriously. Conductivity analysis and laser scanning confocal microscope staining showed that compound 3f changed cell-membrane permeability and caused accumulation of reactive oxygen species. The enzyme activity results showed that compound 3f significantly inhibited the activity of CYP51 (59.70%), SOD (76.9%), and CAT (67.86%). Molecular docking identified strong interaction energy between compound 3f and crystal structures of CYP51 (-11.18 kcal/mol), SOD (-9.25 kcal/mol), and CAT (-8.79 kcal/mol). These results provide guidance for the discovery of natural product-based antifungal pesticide candidates.

Design and Synthesis of Antifungal Candidates Containing Triazole Scaffold from Natural Rosin against Valsa mali for Crop Protection.

To explore insecticides targeting the γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptor, two series of novel isoxazoline derivatives containing sulfonic and carboxylic esters were designed and synthesized. Their insecticidal activities against Plutella xylostella, Mythimna separata, and Aedes aegypti larvae and their structure-activity relationship were investigated. The sulfonate-containing isoxazoline derivatives (10k-q) exhibited promising insecticidal activities against the three insect larvae. Compound 10o displayed excellent activities with LC50 values of 8.32, 5.23, and 0.35 μg/mL at 48 h against P. xylostella, M. separata, and A. aegypti larvae, respectively, which were better than or similar to those of avermectin. Furthermore, compound 10o exhibited a faster insecticidal effect than avermectin against M. separata. The mode of action of 10o was preliminarily verified by molecular docking, theoretical calculations, and measurement of glutamate decarboxylase and glutamic pyruvic transaminase activities. Compound 10o is a novel insecticidal candidate acting on GABA receptors, which could guide the discovery of isoxazoline insecticides.

Structural Diversity Design, Synthesis, and Insecticidal Activity Analysis of Ester-Containing Isoxazoline Derivatives Acting on the GABA Receptor.

We have reported unique β-Ga2O3 nanoscale-strips (β-Ga2O3-NSS) morphology on epitaxial Gallium nitride film by thermal oxidation and fabricated heterostructure based self-powered photodetector (PD) operable from 230 nm to 800 nm (UVC to Vis) broad spectral range. The device demonstrates an ultrahigh responsivity of 5.8 × 103 mAW−1 under 266 nm illuminations at zero bias. The developed broadband photodetector at zero applied bias exhibits excellent responsivity of 2600, 56, and 450 mAW−1 under light illuminations of 355 nm, 455 nm, and 532 nm, respectively. In addition, the device also shows very high responsivity (1.6 × 105 mAW−1) with low noise equivalent power (10−13 WHz−1/2) and excellent external quantum efficiency (104%) under the bias of 5 V at 266 nm. The outstanding performance of the developed device is attributed to the light-trapping geometry of the β-Ga2O3-nanoscale-strips. The simple architecture of the device opens up new avenues for the fabrication of the next generation of Ga2O3-based broadband photodetection devices.

The visible light photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB) over N-doped TiO2 (N-TiO2) was investigated The intermediate products of MB in the photocatalytic degradation process were analyzed by HPLC-MS technique The results show that the cleavages of CS+=C and CN=C functional group in the central aromatic ring and the cleavage of N-C bond between the methyl group and nitrogen atom all can occur in the visible light photocatalytic degradation process over N-TiO2, but MB is difficult to be mineralized completely to the inorganic products A detailed degradation pathway of MB has been proposed on the basis of a careful identification of intermediate products
