Apparatus and methods for accessing a wireless telecommunications network by transmitting a random access signal. The random access signal includes a random access preamble signal selected from a set of random access preamble signals constructed by cyclically shift selected root CAZAC sequences. The random access signal may be one or more transmission sub-frames in duration, the included random access preamble sequence's length being extended with the signal to provide improved signal detection performance in larger cells and in higher interference environments. The random access signal may include a wide-band pilot signal facilitating base station estimation of up-link frequency response in some situations. Each of the plurality of available random access preamble sequences may be assigned a unique information value. The base station may use the information encoded in the random access preamble to prioritize responses and resource allocations. Random access signal collisions are dealt with by a combination of preamble code space randomness and back-off procedures.

Location estimate(s) for the mobile device drives selection of a target femto AP. Selection of the target AP results in acceptance of the HO request. The mobile device also can request macro-to-femto (MTF) handover. HO neighbor list(s) is generated by decoding a network-issued identifier for each femto APs in a set of femtocells, and selectively ranking each femto AP based at least on channel quality; access privileges of the mobile device to each of the identified femto APs determines selectivity. Validation of mobile device's access right(s) drives acceptance of the MTF HO request to a top ranked femto AP.

The present invention relates to a method for generating an uplink reference signal in a system supporting plural uplink-access transmission modes. The method comprises: a step for transmitting the reference signal configuration information about the configuration of a reference signal from a base station to a user device through an uplink grant PDCCH (Physical Downlink Control Channel), and a step for receiving from the user device a sub-frame including the reference signal that is generated based on the reference signal configuration information. The reference signal configuration information is prepared for plural uplink access transmission modes and includes a cyclic shift value for the sequence of the reference signal. The reference signal is supposed to be transmitted to an uplink, and the user device is set up to be operated in the uplink-access transmission mode that corresponding to the reference signal configuration information.

A method of transmitting, by a transmitter, information in a wireless communication system, the method includes generating first and second symbols; generating first and second transmit vectors on the basis of an Alamouti code from the first and second symbols; and transmitting the first transmit vector through a first antenna and transmitting the second transmit vector through a second antenna. The first transmit vector consists of a first transmit symbol and a second transmit symbol. The second transmit vector consists of a third transmit symbol and a fourth transmit symbol. The first, second, third, and fourth transmit symbols are transmitted based on first and second resource indexes. The first symbol is a first modulation symbol for first information, and the second symbol is a second modulation symbol for second information.

Method and apparatus for information transmission in a radio communication system

Techniques for multiplexing pilots in a wireless transmission are described. In one aspect, a transmitter station generates multiple pilot sequences for multiple transmit antennas, with each pilot sequence comprising pilot symbols sent in the time domain on a different set of subcarriers. The transmitter station further generates multiple pilot transmissions for the transmit antennas based on the pilot sequences. In another aspect, a transmitter station generates multiple pilot sequences for multiple transmit antennas based on frequency-domain code division multiplexing (FD-CDM) of a Chu sequence defined by a transmitter-specific value. The transmitter station further generates multiple pilot transmissions for the transmit antennas based on the pilot sequences. In yet another aspect, a transmitter station generates multiple pilot transmissions for multiple transmit antennas based on a first multiplexing scheme and generates multiple data transmissions based on a second multiplexing scheme that is different from the first multiplexing scheme.
