Measurement of multidrug-resistance messenger RNA in urogenital cancers; elevated expression in renal cell carcinoma is associated with intrinsic drug resistance.
Yoshiyuki Kakehi,Yoshiyuki Kakehi,Hiroshi Kanamaru,Hiroshi Kanamaru,Osamu Yoshida,Osamu Yoshida,Hiroaki Ohkubo,Hiroaki Ohkubo,Shigetada Nakanishi,Shigetada Nakanishi,Michael M. Gottesman,Michael M. Gottesman,Ira H. Pastan,Ira H. Pastan +13 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that the high MDR1 RNA levels in renal cell carcinomas are associated with intrinsic multidrug-resistance.

Prostatic acid phosphatase degrades lysophosphatidic acid in seminal plasma
Masayuki Tanaka,Yasuhiro Kishi,Yasukazu Takanezawa,Yoshiyuki Kakehi,Junken Aoki,Hiroyuki Arai +5 more
TL;DR: It is shown that prostatic acid phosphatase inactivates LPA in human seminal plasma, indicating the possible role of LPA signaling in male sexual organs including prostate cancer and demonstrates active LPA metabolism in seminal plasma.

Randomised phase III study of neoadjuvant chemotherapy with methotrexate, doxorubicin, vinblastine and cisplatin followed by radical cystectomy compared with radical cystectomy alone for muscle-invasive bladder cancer: Japan Clinical Oncology Group Study JCOG0209
Hiroshi Kitamura,Taiji Tsukamoto,Taro Shibata,Naoya Masumori,Hiroyuki Fujimoto,Hirao Y,K. Fujimoto,Y. Kitamura,Yoshihiko Tomita,K. Tobisu,M. Niwakawa,Seiji Naito,Masatoshi Eto,Yoshiyuki Kakehi +13 more
TL;DR: This trial showed a significantly increased pT0 proportion and favourable OS of patients who received neoadjuvant MVAC and NAC with MVAC can still be considered promising as a standard treatment.

Symptomatic and asymptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia: Molecular differentiation by using microarrays
Kulkarni Prakash,Gregorio Pirozzi,Michael Elashoff,William E. Munger,Iwao Waga,Rajiv Dhir,Yoshiyuki Kakehi,Robert H. Getzenberg +7 more
TL;DR: To elucidate the molecular differences underlying BPH, gene expression profiles from the prostate transition zone tissue have been analyzed by using microarrays and a set of 511 differentially expressed genes distinguished symptomatic and asymptomatic BPH.

Complication rates of ultrasound‐guided prostate biopsy: A nation‐wide survey in Japan
Yoshiyuki Kakehi,Seiji Naito +1 more
TL;DR: To assess the morbidity secondary to ultrasound‐guided systematic prostate biopsy in Japan, a large number of patients with history of prostate cancer were referred for treatment with an ultrasound-guided procedure.
