The purpose of the present invention is to provide an electric walking assistance device with which falling can be prevented, a program for controlling the electric walking assistance device, and a method of controlling the electric walking assistance device. This electric assisted walker (100) has a motor (320) that is operated with a power source from a battery (310). A control unit (400) performs assist-control of the rotation of a pair of rear wheels (230) using the motor (320). If the pair of rear wheels (230) are determined to have a prescribed rotational acceleration or higher, a speed limitation unit (500) or a control brake unit (700) limits the rotational acceleration of the pair of rear wheels (230).

In one embodiment, the device comprises a first member in a kinematic relationship with at least one further member to form a system. The system interacts when an external energising force is imposed on the system causing the members to respond due to their kinematic and dynamic characteristics and thereby creating relative motion between the members. A trigger member is coupled to the at least the first member and moves in response to a pre-determined system movement. When the trigger member moves, the trigger member imposes a braking action on the system or members thereof. The speed or intensity of the braking action imposed by the trigger member on the system or members thereof is controlled by the trigger member rate of movement. This rate of movement is in turn governed by a magnetic flux interaction between the trigger member and the at least one first member causing formation of a magnetically induced eddy current force between the parts.

Tuning of a kinematic relationship between members

The eddy current brake configured to have at least two rotational degrees of freedom, where a first primary axis of rotation is angularly translated relative to at least one secondary or control axis of rotation and the braking action is applied to the primary axis and the at least one secondary axis is used to modulate of the braking action. The braking system has a second axis of rotation in a different plane to that of the first axis of rotation and the second axis of rotation may be at an angle generally orthogonal to the first degree of freedom axis of rotation. An orthogonal second axis of rotation may assist with system stability and avoid oscillating forces in an auto-belay or self-retracting lifeline (SRL).

Described herein is a system, method of use and Self Retracting Lifeline (SRL) apparatus using a system that governs a dynamic response between members causing a halt in relative motion between the members. Magnetic interactions, eddy current drag forces and centrifugal and/or inertial forces may provide various mechanisms of governing movement.

Latch activation between members

An apparatus has a first portion of a magnetic braking system with a first element disposed thereon. The first portion rotates about an axis. The position of the first element is a fixed distance from the axis. A second portion of the magnetic braking system has a second element disposed thereon. A spring biases the rotatable first portion a first distance from the second portion. Upon application of a force to one of the portions, the relative position of the rotatable first portion to the second portion is reduced to a second distance less than the first distance.

Provided is a vehicle speed control device with respect to which the speed at which a centrifugal brake operates can be easily changed from the outside without disassembling the device. A brake drum 11 is fixed to a vehicle body 101 a. A brake shoe 23 rotates around a rotary shaft 20 of the wheel 101 c, and reduces the rotation speed of the wheel 101 c as a result of coming into contact with an inner circumferential side face of the brake drum 11. A spring 24 prevents contact between the brake drum 11 and the brake shoe 23 when the rotation speed of the wheel 101 c is lower than or equal to a predetermined speed, and permits contact between the brake drum 11 and the brake shoe 23 when the rotation speed of the wheel 101 c exceeds the predetermined speed. A position change mechanism 25 is installed within the brake drum 11, and changes the position of an end of the spring 24 on one end side. A transmission mechanism 26 transmits a force that is input by an external operation to the position change mechanism 25 and drives the position change mechanism.
