Innovative and environmentally friendly MICP surface curing: enhancing mechanical and durability properties of concrete

Infrastructures built on sulfate saline soil foundations in seasonal frozen regions are highly susceptible to salt-frost heave damage and salt corrosion. To address this issue, a method has been proposed utilizing a ternary blend of industrial solid waste materials - fly ash (FA), silica fume (SF), and brick powder (BP) - in conjunction with Portland cement (PC) for the solidification of sulfate saline soil. The feasibility of this solidification technique has been validated through a series of tests, including unconfined compressive strength tests, freeze-thaw cycle tests, salt leaching tests, and microstructural analysis. The results showed that: The unconfined compressive strength of the solidified saline soil at 56 days increased by up to 61.27 times compared to untreated saline soil. During the freeze-thaw cycles, the volume of salt-frost heave in the solidified saline soil was only 10.75% of that in untreated soil, with a reduction in salt-frost heave force by up to 90.94%. Furthermore, during the salt leaching process, the rate of salt migration in the solidified saline soil could be slowed by up to 4.15 times, while the total amount of salt leached was only 31.34% of that in untreated saline soil. Additionally, through the combined use of X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS), it was discovered that the interactive synergistic effect of the solidifying agents in a SO42- rich environment facilitated the dissolution of Si-O and Al-O micro-lattices on the surface of the solidifying agent particles. This led to the extensive formation of C-(A)-S-H gels and AFt products, resulting in the transformation of the soil structure from dispersed to flocculated. The comprehensive test results indicate that the mechanical properties, frost resistance, and salt corrosion resistance of the solidified saline soil have significantly improved, with an optimal solidifying agent mixture ratio of 3% PC, 5% FA, 5% SF, and 6% BP. These findings can provide a reference for the solidification treatment of sulfate saline soil foundations in seasonal frozen regions.

Improving carbon flux estimation in tea plantation ecosystems: A machine learning ensemble approach

Grassland ecosystems are an important component of global terrestrial ecosystems and play a crucial role in the global carbon cycle. Therefore, it is important to study the carbon dioxide (CO2) process in the Middle Tien Shan grassland ecosystem, which can be regarded as a typical representative of the mountain grasslands in Xinjiang. Eddy covariance (EC) and the global carbon fluxes dataset (GCFD) were utilized to continuously monitor the Middle Tien Shan grassland ecosystem in Xinjiang throughout the 2018 growing season. The findings revealed notable daily and monthly fluctuations in net ecosystem exchange (NEE), gross primary productivity (GPP), and ecosystem respiration (Reco). On a daily basis, there was net absorption of CO2 during the day and net emission during the night. The grassland acted as a carbon sink from 6:00 to 18:00 and as a carbon source for the remaining hours of the day. On a monthly scale, June and July served as carbon sinks, whereas the other months acted as carbon sources. The accumulated NEE, GPP, and Reco during the growing season were −329.49 g C m−2, 779.04 g C m−2, and 449.55 g C m−2, respectively. On the half-hourly and daily scales, soil temperature (Ts) was the main contributor to CO2 fluxes and had the greatest influence on the variations in CO2 fluxes. Additionally, air temperature (Ta) showed a strong correlation with CO2 fluxes. The grassland ecosystems exhibited the strongest CO2 uptake, reaching its peak at soil temperatures of 25 °C. Moreover, as the air temperatures rose above 15 °C, there was a gradual decrease in NEE, while CO2 uptake increased. The applicability of GCFD data is good in the grassland ecosystem of the Middle Tien Shan Mountains, with correlations of 0.59, 0.81, and 0.73 for NEE, GPP, and Reco, respectively, compared to field observations. In terms of remote sensing spatial distribution, the Middle Tien Shan grassland ecosystem exhibits a carbon sink phenomenon.

Temporal and Spatial Variations in Carbon Flux and Their Influencing Mechanisms on the Middle Tien Shan Region Grassland Ecosystem, China

Aiming at the problems of low detection accuracy and low efficiency of the size detection of automobile brake joints, a set of detection system based on TIA Portal is designed. The system uses Siemens S7-1200 PLC (Program Logistic Controller) as the controller, servo motor as the system running motor, and Siemens TP900 Smart Series HMI control panel as the control panel. The system can set the total number of detections through the HMI touch screen, and monitor the signal through the sensor to monitor the system running process in real time to ensure the normal operation of the system. The configuration simulation results show that the system not only has the characteristics of safety and high efficiency, but also greatly improves the detection efficiency of the brake joint size of the automobile, reduces the production cost of the enterprise, and further improves the automation degree of the brake joint size detection.(Abstract)

Design of automotive brakejoint size detection system based on TIA Portal

Although previous studies have illustrated the variation of CO2 fluxes in different terrestrial ecosystems, more needs to be reported on desert ecosystems. This study, based on the eddy covariance (EC) measurements data over the Gurbantunggut Desert, analyzed the controlling factors and variations of net ecosystem exchange (NEE), gross primary production (GPP), and ecosystem respiration (Reco) during the growing season (April-September2021) in Gurbantunggut Desert. The results were as follows: 1) Carbon fluxes in the Gurbantunggut Desert had prominent daily and seasonal variations during the growing season. On the daily scale, it showed a net uptake during the day and a net release at night, and the monthly average daily change curve of NEE was “U” shaped; on the seasonal scale, carbon uptake was observed in all months, with a peak of −37.76 gC m−2 month−1 in May. 2)The cumulative amounts of NEE, GPP, and Reco in the Gurbantunggut Desert were −193.74, 235.43, and 41.69 g C m−2, respectively, throughout the growing season, showing carbon sinks. 3) Correlation analysis with environmental factors revealed that NEE, GPP, and Reco of desert ecosystems were highly significantly correlated with photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) at different time scales (p < 0.01). Second, at the half-hourly scale, all environmental factors showed vital significance, with a high correlation with air temperature (Tair) and soil temperature (Tsoil); at the monthly scale, they were significantly correlated with Precipitation (p < 0.05). 4) Photosynthetically active radiation is the dominant factor affecting the daily net ecosystem carbon exchange rate. The two are consistent with the rectangle hyperbola model where the daily net ecosystem carbon exchange rate decreases with increasing photosynthetically active radiation. The results indicate that carbon fluxes in the growing season of the Gurbantunggut Desert ecosystem are more sensitive to the response of photosynthetically active radiation. The results have significant reference value for further understanding and research in predicting the source-sink function and influence mechanism of desert ecosystems.

Mechanical properties and microscopic mechanism of active MgO-fly ash solidified saline soil in seasonal freezing areas

Due to the well condition and the un-expected imbalance movement of the pumping unit in use, the energy consumes a lot. The existing balancing equipment cannot adjust and monitor the pumping units in real time. Therefore this paper introduces the new adaptive balancing equipment—fan-shaped adaptive balancing intelligent device, projects a design of such control system based on PLC, and determines the principle of the control system, the execution software and the design flow. Site commissioning effect on Daqing Oilfield shows this fan-shaped adaptive balancing intelligent device can effectively adjust and monitor the pumping unit in real time, the balance even adjusts from 0.787 to 0.901, and integrated energy saving rate is 14.2%. It is approved that this control device is professionally designed, with strong compatibility, and high reliability.
