Synergistic effect of entomopathogenic bacteria (Xenorhabdus sp. and Photorhabdus temperata ssp. temperata) on the pathogenicity of Bacillus thuringiensis ssp. aizawai against Spodoptera exigua (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)
Seong-Chae Jung,Yonggyun Kim +1 more
TL;DR: This research shows a possibility that Xenorhabdus or PhotorhabDus can be applied to kill S. exigua by oral treatment in a mixture with Bt, which was highly synergistic against the fifth-instar larvae of S.Exigua.

A putative protein translation inhibitory factor encoded by Cotesia plutellae bracovirus suppresses host hemocyte-spreading behavior.
Madanagopal Nalini,Yonggyun Kim +1 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that CpBV15beta suppresses hemocyte behavior by inhibiting protein translation, and could also be demonstrated on hemocytes of a non-natural host, Spodoptera exigua.

Bacterial metabolites of an entomopathogenic bacterium, Xenorhabdus nematophila, inhibit a catalytic activity of phenoloxidase of the diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella.
TL;DR: Another novel activity of BZA was discovered that directly inhibited phenoloxidase (PO) activity required for immune-associated melanization when it was injected into larvae of Plutella xylostella and did not influence on gene expression of PO.

Regulation of hemolymph trehalose level by an insulin-like peptide through diel feeding rhythm of the beet armyworm, Spodoptera exigua.
Yonggyun Kim,Youkyeong Hong +1 more
TL;DR: RNA interference of SeILP1 using its specific double-stranded RNA induced a significant increase of hemolymph trehalose level, and a bovine insulin decreased hemoly mph trehalOSE level in a dose-dependent manner.

Immunosuppressive action of pyriproxyfen, a juvenile hormone analog, enhances pathogenicity of Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. kurstaki against diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella (Lepidoptera: Yponomeutidae)
Sungjin Kwon,Yonggyun Kim +1 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that immunosuppression enhances entomopathogenicity of B. thuringiensis and 20E antagonizes the JH inhibitory effect on hemocyte behavior.
