Semiconductor-based Photocatalytic Hydrogen Generation

As a fascinating conjugated polymer, graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) has become a new research hotspot and drawn broad interdisciplinary attention as a metal-free and visible-light-responsive photocatalyst in the arena of solar energy conversion and environmental remediation. This is due to its appealing electronic band structure, high physicochemical stability, and “earth-abundant” nature. This critical review summarizes a panorama of the latest progress related to the design and construction of pristine g-C3N4 and g-C3N4-based nanocomposites, including (1) nanoarchitecture design of bare g-C3N4, such as hard and soft templating approaches, supramolecular preorganization assembly, exfoliation, and template-free synthesis routes, (2) functionalization of g-C3N4 at an atomic level (elemental doping) and molecular level (copolymerization), and (3) modification of g-C3N4 with well-matched energy levels of another semiconductor or a metal as a cocatalyst to form heterojunction nanostructures. Chlorofluorocarbon-22 (HCClF2) gas can react with acetonitrile to form a halogen-free carbon-based polymer when solid potassium hydroxide particles are present. The reaction can be carried out under normal pressure and at room temperature. The polymer is powdery and amorphous. The structure of the polymer has been studied by elemental analysis, Fourier transform IR, Raman, and mass spectroscopies. Preparation of Bismuth Phosphate Photocatalyst with High Dispersion by Refluxing Method

The diffusion process Of MoO3 and ZnO on stable oxide thin films (SiO2, Al2O3, TiO2) was investigated mainly by means of synchrotron-radiation-excited total reflection x-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (SR-TXRF). A stripe Of MoO3 or ZnO on the oxide thin film was used as the diffusion source. After thermal treatment, MoO3 diffused onto the surface of those films and formed a monolayer or a submonolayer. The diffusion capacity and the diffusion rate Of MoO3 on each film differed significantly. Sublimation of MoO3 also was detected during the diffusion process. A possible explanation for all the phenomena is the combination of surface diffusion onto the surface of the support and transportation via the gas phase. By contrast, ZnO hardly diffuses onto the surface of the film due to its high melting point. Copyright (C) 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
