Being an emerging economy: To what extent do geopolitical risks hamper technology and FDI inflows?

The expanding international influence of sustainable finance has made it one of the most cutting-edge development trends in the financial field. Learning about the global evolution of research on sustainable finance can improve the understanding and evaluation of sustainable finance by scholars and practitioners. Based on the ISI Web of Science database, this paper used bibliometric methods to analyze 3786 articles related to sustainable finance published between 2000 and 2021, mastering their discipline co-occurrence, publication characteristics, partnership, influence, keyword co-occurrence, co-citations, and structural variation. The highlights of the results: socially responsible investment, climate change, corporate social responsibility, green finance, carbon credits, and renewable energy were the hotspots between 2000 and 2021; responsible investment, green bond, low-carbon transition, vulnerable countries, low-carbon investment, business model, financial development, supply chain, conventional investment dilemma, sustainable financing, environmental investment, and green credit policy were the hot research topics between 2016 and 2021; papers related to socially responsible investment were an important knowledge base for sustainable financial research between 2000 and 2021; the research topics of the articles with the strongest transformative potentials between 2016 and 2021 mainly involved green bonds, socially responsible mutual funds, ESG investors’ preferences, and the impact of COVID-19.

Global Evolution of Research on Sustainable Finance from 2000 to 2021: A Bibliometric Analysis on WoS Database

This work reports the fabrication of a starch-chitosan-based membrane for proton exchange membrane fuel cell applications at high temperatures, up to 145 °C. The membranes were fabricated by the solution casting method. Ionic liquids (ILs) were incorporated into the fabricated membranes to examine how they impact the proton conductivity. All the modified membranes generally demonstrated very good proton conductivity values in the range of 10−3 S/cm at room temperature. A noticeable increase in the proton conductivity was observed as the temperature was increased for the IL-based membranes. The IL-based membranes gave very high proton conductivities at 145 °C with a percentage increase of 209 % and 900 % compared to the reference membrane that contains starch and chitosan without any additives. The study reported structural interactions, particularly with the hydrophilic groups like the hydroxyl group, as revealed by FTIR analysis. These findings were supported by EIS measurements. The SEM images showed morphological alterations, and the XRD characterization indicated a shift toward an amorphous structure, implying more water retention in the polymer matrix, which explains the improved proton conductivity. The proton conductivity results as well as relevant water uptake properties reported in this work, appear to be promising for fuel cells operating above the boiling point of water. 

Starch-chitosan-ionic liquids-based composite membranes for high temperature PEM fuel cells applications

Quality function deployment (QFD), an important technique in quality management, has been studied extensively and has already been tested in various areas of real-world applications. In this article, we provide a bibliometric analysis on the development of QFD between 1983 and 2019 on the basis of 1856 literature works retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection database. The results indicate that QFD is considered to have come into its flourishing stage over the past decade, and more than 3000 scholars from 1400 institutions and 82 countries/regions have made important contributions to its development. In addition, we elaborate the research contents and the evolutionary process of eight research branches of QFD, with full-scale details, combining the traditional survey and the bibliometric method. Finally, in order to envisage its future development, this article initially proposes the research potential evaluation model, which is used to assess research potential through two indicators: &#x201C;recent attention (RA)&#x201D; and &#x201C;maturity.&#x201D; Through applying this model to QFD, the findings show that integrating environmental issues into QFD has been an increasing trend in this area, stimulating the growth of a series of promising research domains, such as environmental product development and sustainable supplier selection, among others. In the end, some general trends of this area are recommended to open insights for further research. 

Quality Function Deployment: A Bibliometric-Based Overview

Over the past few decades, the wealth of Africa has not made African wealthy. There is a voicing that Africa is cursed, whether richly poor or poorly rich. Sub-Saharan Africa is commonplace for political turbulence, as well as humanitarian and economic misery. In such a catastrophic situa-tion, political economics studies have focused on the Resource Curses, Dutch Diseases, and Con-flict Resources in this area. A systematic scientometric analysis of this field would be beneficial but is currently lacking in the academic literature. Using VOSviewer and CiteSpace, this review fills the void by analyzing the 1783 articles published in the WoS SSCI Collection between 1993 and 2020 on the “Resource Curses”, “Dutch Diseases”, and “Conflict Resources”. The author dis-cusses recent papers with disruptive potential, references with the most robust citation explora-tions, and cooperation networks between authors and institutes. Three hotspots were detected: the causes and effects of the Resource curses; the interaction among the Resource Curses, Dutch Diseases, and Conflict Resources; the factors that affect rent collection and regime resilience. While the literature on the “Resource curse” and “Dutch Disease” has been around longer, studies on “Conflict Resources” are picking up quickly. Conflict Resources were characterized by active citation exploration keywords and multiple active co-citation clusters, including possibly groundbreaking articles. There is a massive overlap between the three strings of literature, but each one has its emphasis.

Science Mapping: A Scientometric Review on Resource Curses, Dutch Diseases, and Conflict Resources during 1993–2020

We are now living in an integrated world full of abrupt political events and socio-political uncertainty. A comprehensive scientometric review in this aspect is useful but lacked in the existing literature. This paper fills the void by using VOSviewer and CiteSpace to systematically analyze the 4200 papers on “political instability”, “political uncertainty” and “political risk” during 1953–2019 from Web of Science Core Collection. We present the annual distribution of papers, the related disciplines, the mainstream journals, hot topics, references with the strongest citation bursts, recent publications with transformative potentials, as well as the collaboration networks of authors, organizations and countries. The hot spots include (1) the causes and impact of political instability, (2) the relationship among political uncertainty, energy price and macroeconomic/financial factors, and (3) the determinants of foreign direct investments. Rangan Gupta from University of Pretoria in South Africa has the most publications in this field, while Witold J Henisz from University of Pennsylvania in the USA has the most citations. As the first endeavor to do comparative study of easily confused terminologies with bibliometric analysis, we find that though literature on “political instability” and “political risk” appeared earlier and have larger volume, research on “political uncertainty” is currently more active and catching up fast. Keywords with on-going citation bursts, two thirds of active co-citation clusters, and potentially transformative papers published recently are all related to political/policy uncertainty. Research on political instability, uncertainty and risk during 1953–2019: a scientometric review

The protic ionic liquid diethylmethylammonium methanesulfonate ([DEMA][OMs]) was analyzed in depth by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and broadband dielectric spectroscopy (BDS) under anhydrous conditions. Karl Fischer titration, NMR, and FT-IR spectra confirmed the high purity of [DEMA][OMs]. The melting point (37.7 °C) and the freezing point (14.0 °C) obtained by DSC agree well with the values determined by BDS (40.0 °C and 14.0 °C). The dc conductivity (σdc) above the melting/freezing point obeys the Vogel-Fulcher-Tammann (VFT) equation well, and thus, the proton conduction in [DEMA][OMs] is assumed to be dominated by the vehicle mechanism. In contrast, the σdc below the melting/freezing point can be fitted by the Arrhenius equation separately, and therefore, the proton conduction is most likely governed by the proton hopping mechanism. The non-negligible influence of previously reported low water content on the physicochemical properties of [DEMA][OMs] is found, indicating the importance of reducing water content as much as possible for the study of "intrinsic" properties of protic ionic liquids.
