Mapping acoustical activity in 3D chiral mechanical metamaterials onto micropolar continuum elasticity
TL;DR: In this article, the authors compare the phonon band structures and chiral phonon eigenmodes of a recently experimentally realized 3D cubic chiral metamaterial architecture to results from linear micropolar elasticity, an established generalization of classical linear Cauchy elasticity.

Roton-like acoustical dispersion relations in 3D metamaterials
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors introduce beyond-nearest-neighbor interactions as a mechanism for molding the flow of waves in acoustic metamaterials, and they find that for strong third-NEIGHBOR interactions, this mechanism allows for engineering roton-like acoustical dispersion relations under ambient conditions.

Experimental observation of roton-like dispersion relations in metamaterials
Julio Andrés Iglesias Martínez,Michael Fidelis Groß,Yi Chen,Tobias Frenzel,Vincent Laude,Muamer Kadic,Muamer Kadic,Martin Wegener +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, rotons were observed in correlated quantum systems at low temperatures, including superfluid helium and Bose-Einstein condensates, following a recent theoretical proposal.

Large characteristic lengths in 3D chiral elastic metamaterials
Tobias Frenzel,Vincent Hahn,Patrick Ziemke,Jonathan Ludwig Günter Schneider,Yi Chen,Pascal Kiefer,Peter Gumbsch,Martin Wegener +7 more
- 04 Jan 2021
TL;DR: In this paper, a simple analytical model is proposed to rationalize the design of the chiral characteristic length, which is then used to construct 3D chiral unit cells with more than 105 micrometer-sized units.
