TL;DR: The Daphnia genome reveals a multitude of genes and shows adaptation through gene family expansions, and the coexpansion of gene families interacting within metabolic pathways suggests that the maintenance of duplicated genes is not random.
Exploring embryonic germ line development in the water flea, Daphnia magna, by zinc-finger-containing VASA as a marker
TL;DR: Raising specific antibodies against Daphnia VASA revealed that the primordial germ cells in this organism segregate at a very early cleavage stage of embryogenesis in parthenogenetic and sexual eggs, and settle at both sides of the intestine, the site of future gonad development.

Cloning and analysis of a cDNA encoding a two-domain hemoglobin chain from the water flea Daphnia magna.
Shin-ichi Tokishita,Yasuhiro Shiga,Shoko Kimura,Shoko Kimura,Toshihiro Ohta,Michiyori Kobayashi,Takayuki Hanazato,Hideo Yamagata +7 more
TL;DR: A cDNA encoding a two-domain hemoglobin (Hb) chain of Daphnia magna was cloned and its nucleotide (nt) sequence of 1261 bp was determined as mentioned in this paper.

Common transcriptional mechanisms for visual photoreceptor cell differentiation among Pancrustaceans.
Simpla Mahato,Shinichi Morita,Abraham E. Tucker,Xulong Liang,Magdalena Jackowska,Markus Friedrich,Yasuhiro Shiga,Andrew C. Zelhof +7 more
TL;DR: Data are identified that identify components of a regulatory framework for rhabdomeric photoreceptor differentiation in Pancrustaceans, providing a foundation for defining ancestral regulatory modules of rhab Domeric opsin transcription and rhabdomere morphogenesis.
Repeated co-option of a conserved gene regulatory module underpins the evolution of the crustacean carapace, insect wings and other flat outgrowths
Yasuhiro Shiga,Yasuhiko Kato,Aragane-Nomura Y,Haraguchi T,Saridaki T,Hajime Watanabe,Taisen Iguchi,Hideo Yamagata,Averof M +8 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that the vestigial-scalloped-wingless gene module has a common role in the margin of diverse flat structures, originating before the divergence of major crustacean lineages and the emergence of insects.
