Background: There are two distinct types of gastric carcinoma (GC), intestinal, more frequently sporadic and linked to environmental factors, and diffuse (undifferentiated) that is highly metastatic and characterized by rapid disease progression and a poor prognosis. However, there are many conflicting data in the literature concerning the association between histology and prognosis in GC. This meta-analysis was performed to provide demonstration if histology according to Lauren classification is associated with different prognosis in patients with GC.
 Methods: We searched PubMed, the Cochrane Library, SCOPUS, Web of Science, CINAHL, and EMBASE for all eligible studies. The combined hazard ratios (HRs) and their corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) in terms of overall survival (OS) were evaluated.
 Results: A total of 73 published studies including 61,468 patients with GC were included in this meta-analysis. Our analysis indicates that GC patients with diffuse-type histology have a worst prognosis than those with intestinal subgroup in all studies (HR 1.23; 95% CI, 1.17–1.29; P Conclusions: Our results indicated that histology might be a useful prognostic marker for both early and advanced GC patients, with intestinal-type associated with a better outcome. This information could be used for stratification purpose in future clinical trials.

Prognostic value of diffuse versus intestinal histotype in patients with gastric cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Gastric cancer (GC) is the third reason for cancer-related deaths in the world. The late referral of patients to medical centers in an advanced stage can make the treatment procedure more difficult. Accurate diagnosis of risk factors in GC tumor size and tumor location can lead to taking preventive measures or determining a suitable treatment strategy. This study aims to present a general model to identify the correlation of different parameters in a GC tumor place and tumor size. The medical documents of GC patients consist of the dataset of this study. The effect of seven main parameters, namely age, smoking, Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection, job, surgical background, sex, and nodal stage is investigated in GC tumor location and tumor size. By considering all the medical documents, data modeling is conducted using gene expression programming because of the high precision of model output. In the following, three different sensitivity analysis methods (Morris, Distributed Evaluation of Local Sensitivity Analysis (DELSA), and Sobol’–Jansen) are applied to determine the influential factors in the tumor size and location. Results show that in sequence, sex, age, and H. pylori records mostly affect tumor location; the nodal stage, smoking, and surgery record mostly affect tumor size. This method can help in identifying effective parameters and prevention of patients’ death in all types of diseases, even for terminal illnesses.

In vivo , Salicylate ●Phenanthroline Copper (II) Complex administration significantly attenuated tumor growth of MDA-MB-231 xenografts, and the expression levels of Bcl-2, Bcl-xL and survivin were reduced as measured by immunohistochemical staining. These data suggest that Salicylate ●Phenanthroline Copper (II) Complex is a promising novel therapeutic drug for triple-negative breast cancer and warrants further study.

Prognostic Significance of Tumor Size in 2405 Patients With Gastric Cancer: A Retrospective Cohort Study

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Perioperative chemotherapy (PC) with radical surgery represents the gold standard of treatment for resectable advanced gastric cancer (GC). The prognostic value of pathological tumor regression grade (TRG) induced by neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) is not clearly established. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between TRG and survival in GC. METHODS Patients affected by advanced GC undergoing PC and radical surgery were considered. TRG was assessed for each patient according to Becker's grading system. The correlation between TRG and survival was investigated. RESULTS One-hundred patients were selected; 25 showed a good response (GR) (TRG 1a/1b), while 75 had a poor response (PR) (TRG 2/3) to NACT. GR patients showed better disease-free survival (DFS) (52 vs. 19 months, p < .001) and disease-specific survival (DSS) (57 vs. 25 months, p < .0001) when compared to PR patients. On univariate analysis, TRG, lymph node ratio (LNR), tumor size, grading, and post-neoadjuvant therapy TNM stage were significantly correlated with survival. On multivariate analysis, TRG, LNR and tumor size were independent prognostic factors for DFS and DSS. CONCLUSIONS TRG, LNR, and tumor size are independent prognostic factors for DFS and DSS in patients with advanced GC undergoing NACT.

Prognostic value of pathological tumor regression grade in locally advanced gastric cancer: New perspectives from a single-center experience.

Tumor size has been included into the staging systems of many solid tumors, such as lung and breast. However, tumor size is not integrated in the staging of gastric cancer, and its prognostic value for gastric cancer needs to be reappraised. A total of 2,379 patients who received radical resection for histopathologically confirmed gastric adenocarcinoma were enrolled in the present study. Tumor size, originally presented as continuous variable, was categorized into small gastric cancer (SGC) group and large gastric cancer (LGC) group using an optimal cutoff point determined by Cox proportional hazards model. The associations between tumor size and other clinicopathological factors were checked using Chi-square test. Survival of gastric cancer patients was estimated by using univariate Kaplan-Meier method, and the survival difference was checked by using the log-rank test. The significant clinicopathological factors were included into the Cox proportional hazards model to determine the independent prognostic factors, and their hazard ratios were calculated. With the optimal cutoff point of 4 cm, tumor size was categorized into SGC group (≤ 4 cm) and LGC group (>4 cm). Tumor size closely correlated with age, tumor location, macroscopic type, Lauren classification, and lymphatic vessel invasion. Moreover, tumor size was also significantly associated with depth of tumor invasion and status of regional lymph nodes. The 5-year survival rate was 68.7 % for SGC group which was much higher than 40.2 % for LGC group. Univariate analysis showed that SGC had a better survival than LGC, mainly for patients with IIA, IIB, and IIIA stage. Multivariate analysis revealed that tumor size as well as age, tumor location, macroscopic type, Lauren classification, lymphatic vessel invasion, depth of tumor invasion, and status of regional lymph nodes were independent prognostic factors for gastric cancer. Tumor size is a reliable prognostic factor for patients with gastric cancer, and the measurement of tumor size would be helpful to the staging and management of gastric cancer.

Prognostic value of tumor size in gastric cancer: an analysis of 2,379 patients

Prolonged postoperative ileus (PPOI) is a major complication in patients undergoing colorectal resection. The aim of this study was to analyze the risk factors contributing to PPOI, and to develop an effective nomogram to determine the risks of this population.A total of 1,254 patients with colorectal cancer who underwent radical colorectal resection at Fujian Cancer Hospital from March 2016 to August 2021 were enrolled as a training cohort in this study. Univariate analysis and multivariate logistic regressions were performed to determine the correlation between PPOI and clinicopathological characteristics. A nomogram predicting the incidence of PPOI was constructed. The cohort of 153 patients from Fujian Provincial Hospital were enrolled as a validation cohort. Internal and external validations were used to evaluate the prediction ability by area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) and a calibration plot.In the training cohort, 128 patients (10.2%) had PPOI after colorectal resection. The independent predictive factors of PPOI were identified, and included gender, age, surgical approach and intraoperative fluid overload. The AUC of nomogram were 0.779 (95% CI: 0.736-0.822) and 0.791 (95%CI: 0.677-0.905) in the training and validation cohort, respectively. The two cohorts of calibration plots showed a good consistency between nomogram prediction and actual observation.A highly accurate nomogram was developed and validated in this study, which can be used to provide individual prediction of PPOI in patients after colorectal resection, and this predictive power can potentially assist surgeons to make the optimal treatment decisions.
