Tumor-associated macrophages promote cancer stem cell-like properties via transforming growth factor-beta1-induced epithelial-mesenchymal transition in hepatocellular carcinoma.
Qing-Min Fan,Yingying Jing,Guofeng Yu,Xingrui Kou,Fei Ye,Lu Gao,Rong Li,Qiudong Zhao,Yang Yang,Zheng-Hua Lu,Lixin Wei +10 more
TL;DR: It is found that the number of TAMs has a positive correlation with the density of CSCs in the marginal of human HCC and they may contribute to investigate the prognosis of HCC.

CD133 + CXCR4 + colon cancer cells exhibit metastatic potential and predict poor prognosis of patients
Shanshan Zhang,Zhipeng Han,Ying Ying Jing,Shuang-fen Tao,Tie-Jun Li,Hao-Hao Wang,Yang Wang,Rong Li,Yang Yang,Xue Zhao,Xiao-dong Xu,En-Da Yu,Rui Yaocheng,Hou-jia Liu,Li-Li Zhang,Lixin Wei +15 more
TL;DR: It was found that CD133+CXCR4+ cancer cells had a high metastatic capacity in vitro and in vivo, and strategies targeting the SDF-1/CX CR4 interaction may have important clinical applications in the suppression of colon cancer metastasis.

Osteopontin induces autophagy to promote chemo-resistance in human hepatocellular carcinoma cells
Guoke Liu,Xiaoyu Fan,Min Tang,Rui Chen,Hao Wang,Rongjie Jia,Xuyu Zhou,Wei Jing,Huajing Wang,Yang Yang,Fan Yin,Huafeng Wei,Bohua Li,Jian Zhao +13 more
TL;DR: It is found that secreted OPN induced autophagy via binding with its receptor integrin αvβ3 and sustaining FoxO3a stability and indicated that OPN was capable of promoting chemo-resistance of HCCs via autophagic, which might provide a new strategy for the treatment of H CC.

Peri-tumor associated fibroblasts promote intrahepatic metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma by recruiting cancer stem cells.
TL;DR: Results indicated that the peri-tumor tissues derived fibroblasts may promote development of HCC by recruiting cancer stem cells and maintaining their stemness characteristic.

Lentiviral vector-mediated siRNA knockdown of SR-PSOX inhibits foam cell formation in vitro
TL;DR: Data showed that SR-PSOX siRNA delivered by using lentiviral vectors in THP-1 cells was a powerful tool for studying the effect of SR- PSOX, and decreased the expression of the SR-psOX gene by inhibiting macrophage-derived foam cell formation.
