The flexibility of EBSD technique for the crystallographic study and the importance of solid grasp of principles in crystallography and materials science to the best use of EBSD are stressed;The general relevance of pole figure representation and manipulation of matrix calculation based on EBSD data is reviewed;It is suggested that generalization of the researches in textures,phase transformation crystallography,interfaces and others is crucial especially for new EBSD users.The trend of scanning microscope design on which EBSD system is installed and the problems encountered during domestic EBSD application are briefly discussed.An application example of EBSD technique to the crystallographic analysis of the formation of two types of martensites in a high Mn TRIP/TWIP steel is provided.
