Despite the fact that both electrochemical experiments and density functional theory calculations have testified to the superior electrocatalytic activity and CO-poisoning tolerance of platinum-ruthenium (PtRu) alloy nanoparticles toward the methanol oxidation reaction (MOR), the facet-dependent electrocatalytic properties of PtRu nanoparticles are scarcely revealed because it is extremely difficult to synthesize well-defined facets-enclosed PtRu nanocrystals. Herein, we for the first time report a general synthesis of ultrathin PtRu nanocrystals with tunable morphologies (nanowires, nanorods, and nanocubes) through a one-step solvothermal approach and a systematic investigation of the structure-directing effects of different surfactants and the formation mechanism by control experiments and time-dependent studies. In addition, we utilize these {100} and {111} facets-enclosed PtRu nanocrystals as model catalysts to evaluate the electrocatalytic characteristics of the MOR on different facets. Remarkably, {111}-terminated PtRu nanowires exhibit much higher stability and electrocatalytic mass activity toward MOR, which are 2.28 and 4.32 times higher than those of {100}-terminated PtRu nanocubes and commercial Pt/C, respectively, indicating that PtRu {111} facets possess superior methanol oxidation activity and CO-poisoning resistance relative to {100} facets. Our present work provides a series of well-defined PtRu nanocrystals with tunable facets which would be ideal model electrocatalysts for fundamental research in fuel cell electrocatalysis.

Shape-Control of Pt-Ru Nanocrystals: Tuning Surface Structure for Enhanced Electrocatalytic Methanol Oxidation.

In this report, bimetallic PdPt nanowire networks (NNWs) with tunable compositions were successfully synthesized via a simple and efficient method. Electrocatalytic analyses prove that the catalytic activity of the as-prepared NNWs is related to their composition, and the synthesized NNWs display great potential as substitutes for commercial Pt/C catalysts for effective catalysis of ethylene glycol and glycerol electrooxidation in an alkaline solution; among the prepared PdPt NNWs, Pd55Pt30 shows the best electrocatalytic activity.

In this present work, “killing two birds with one stone” strategy was performed for the electrochemical trace level detection and photocatalytic degradation of antibiotic drug chloramphenicol (CAP) using Ce(MoO4)2 nanocubes/graphene oxide (CeM/GO) composite for the first time. The CeM/GO composite was synthesized via simple hydrothermal treatment followed by sonication process. The successful formation of CeM/GO composite was confirmed by several analytical and spectroscopic techniques. The CeM/GO composite modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) showed excellent electrocatalytic activity toward the reduction of CAP in terms of decrease the potential and increase the cathodic peak current in comparison with different modified and unmodified electrodes. The electrocatalytic reduction of CAP based on the CeM/GO modified GCE exhibited high selectivity, wide linear ranges, lower detection limit, and good sensitivity of 0.012–20 and 26–272 μM, 2 nM ,and 1.8085 μA μM–1 cm–2, respectively. A Study of Electrocatalytic and Photocatalytic Activity of Cerium Molybdate Nanocubes Decorated Graphene Oxide for the Sensing and Degradation of Antibiotic Drug Chloramphenicol

Due to their unique optical properties, narrow size distributions, and good biological affinity, gold nanoparticles have been widely applied in sensing analysis, catalytic, environmental monitoring, and disease therapy. The color of a gold nanoparticle solution and its maximum characteristic absorption wavelength will change with the particle size and inter-particle spacing. These properties are often used in the detection of hazardous chemicals, such as pesticide residues, heavy metals, banned additives, and biotoxins, in food. Because the gold nanoparticles-colorimetric sensing strategy is simple, quick, and sensitive, this method has extensive applications in real-time on-site monitoring and rapid testing of food quality and safety. Herein, we review the preparation methods, functional modification, photochemical properties, and applications of gold nanoparticle sensors in rapid testing. In addition, we elaborate on the colorimetric sensing mechanisms. Finally, we discuss the advantages and disadvantages of colorimetric sensors based on gold nanoparticles, and directions for future development.
