Biomaterial Stiffness Guides Cross-talk between Chondrocytes: Implications for a Novel Cellular Response in Cartilage Tissue Engineering.
Linyi Cai,Wenjing Liu,Yujia Cui,Yang Liu,Wei Du,Liwei Zheng,Caixia Pi,Demao Zhang,Jing Xie,Xuedong Zhou +9 more
TL;DR: This work used polydimethylsiloxane with varied stiffnesses as a cell culture substrate to elucidate a novel cell-to-cell communication in a collective of chondrocytes regulated by biomaterial stiffness, which may lead to refining cell-based cartilage tissue engineering.

PDGF-AA promotes cell-to-cell communication in osteocytes through PI3K/Akt signaling pathway.
Yang Liu,Mengmeng Duan,Daimo Guo,Shiyi Kan,Lei Zhang,Munire Aili,Demao Zhang,Wei Du,Jing Xie +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of platelet derived growth factor-AA (PDGF-AA) on intercellular communication between osteocytes is investigated, and it is shown that the activation of phosphorylation of Akt protein by phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/Akt (also known as protein kinase B, PKB) signaling decreased the expression of connexin43 (Cx43).

Osteoporosis-decreased extracellular matrix stiffness impairs connexin 43-mediated gap junction intercellular communication in osteocytes
TL;DR: The correlation between ECM mechanical property and cell-to-cell communication in osteocytes is demonstrated and might pave the way for further exploration of osteoporosis in terms of biomechanics.
