Transplanted hair follicle mesenchymal stem cells alleviated small intestinal ischemia–reperfusion injury via intrinsic and paracrine mechanisms in a rat model
Yang Gao,Haoyuan Chen,Xueyu Cang,Hongliang Chen,Yuzhu Di,Jihan Qi,Huimin Cai,Kunpeng Luo,Shizhu Jin +8 more
TL;DR: Hair follicle MSCs are beneficial to alleviate small intestinal IR injury through intrinsic homing to the small intestine and by differentiating into ISCs, via a paracrine mechanism to promote angiogenesis, reduce apoptosis, regulate the oxidative stress response, and protect intestinal mucosal function potentially.
Amniotic Fluid-Derived Stem Cells Demonstrated Cardiogenic Potential in Indirect Co-culture with Human Cardiac Cells
Yang Gao,Jennifer P. Connell,Lalita Wadhwa,Rodrigo Ruano,Rodrigo Ruano,Jeffrey G. Jacot,Jeffrey G. Jacot +6 more
TL;DR: Human AFSC in contact with human cardiac cells showed expression of cardiac troponin T in immunohistochemistry, and no evidence of cell fusion was found through fluorescent in situ hybridization, suggesting that contact is a necessary but not sufficient condition for AFSC cardiac differentiation in co-culture with cardiac cells.
Stem Cells and Progenitor Cells for Tissue-Engineered Solutions to Congenital Heart Defects
Yang Gao,Jeffrey G. Jacot +1 more
TL;DR: The research into possible sources of cardiomyocytes and other cardiac cells are reviewed, including embryonic stem cells, induced pluripotent stem cell, mesenchymal stem Cells, adipose-derived stem cells), umbilical cord blood cells, amniotic fluid-derivedstem cells, and cardiac progenitor cells.
Full-Thickness Heart Repair with an Engineered Multilayered Myocardial Patch in Rat Model.
Seokwon Pok,Seokwon Pok,Igor Stupin,Christopher Tsao,Robia G. Pautler,Yang Gao,Raymond M. Nieto,Ze-Wei Tao,Charles D. Fraser,Ananth Annapragada,Jeffrey G. Jacot,Jeffrey G. Jacot,Jeffrey G. Jacot +12 more
TL;DR: In a rat model of right free wall replacement, the transplantation of an engineered multilayered myocardial patch fabricated from a polycaprolactone membrane supporting a chitosan/heart matrix hydrogel induces significant muscular and vascular remodeling and results in a significantly higher right ventricular ejection fraction compared to use of a commercially available pericardium patch.
