ABSTRACT Among various materials available for alleviating the corrosion-related degradation, thermal sprayed Fe-based metallic glass coatings (MGCs) have received huge attention from the scientific community due to the exceptional combination of mechanical and corrosion properties, along with commercially attractive low material cost of this particular alloy system. Emerging reports on the thermal sprayed Fe-based MGCs outperforming conventional corrosion-resistant materials and coatings have accelerated further exploration of this domain, resulting in an immense increase of research activities over the last few decades producing fascinating results. This review takes a holistic approach encompassing an in-depth assessment of all the relevant salient work till date, including corrosion properties, corresponding degradation mechanisms, metallurgical and environmental factors with reference to passive film dynamics and/or formation of corrosion products. Moreover, various strategies for improved corrosion properties and recent research progress have been reviewed with an attempt to identify the present knowledge gaps and the future research directions. Fe-based metallic glass coatings by thermal spraying: a focused review on corrosion properties and related degradation mechanisms

Magnetic shielding mechanism and structure design of composites at low frequency: a review

High-entropy amorphous alloys designed based on the concept of multi-principal components have the comprehensive advantages of high passivation element content and amorphous structure, and are considered as one of the promising alternative protective materials in extreme marine environments. However, based on the composition of traditional amorphous alloys, the multi-principal design significantly reduces its glass forming ability. In order to improve the glass formation ability of high-entropy amorphous alloys, this study attempts to design Fe19.6Co19.6Ni19.6Cr19.6(B13.72Si5.88)19.6Y2 alloy by microalloying on the basis of traditional FeCoNiCrBSi high-entropy amorphous alloy. The traditional Fe43.6Co6Ni17.4Cr9B17.5Si1.5Nb5 iron-based amorphous alloy was selected as the comparison material. Then, spherical alloy powders were prepared by gas atomization. The amorphous nanocrystalline composite coatings were deposited on the 304 stainless steel by laser cladding technology. The microstructure of the coatings was characterized by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffractometer. The corrosion behavior of laser cladding coatings in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution were investigated in detail. The results show that the Fe43.6Co6Ni17.4Cr9B17.5Si1.5Nb5 powder is composed of FCC, Laves and boride phases. Whereas the Fe19.6Co19.6Ni19.6Cr19.6(B13.72Si5.88)19.6Y2 high-entropy amorphous alloy powder is composed of FCC and boride phases. Due to the remelting and multiple heat treatments during the preparation of the laser cladding coatings, borides were precipitated in both coatings. The microstructure of the two coatings from the bonding area with the substrate to the top layer are plane grains, dendrite, equiaxed grains and amorphous phase, respectively. Fe19.6Co19.6Ni19.6Cr19.6(B13.72Si5.88)19.6Y2 high-entropy amorphous alloy coating exhibits high corrosion potential, passivation film resistance and low corrosion current density in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution. In addition, the passivation film formed on the coating has higher Cr content and lower defect concentration, showing more excellent corrosion resistance.

Microstructure and Corrosion Behavior of Laser Cladding FeCoNiCrBSi Based High-Entropy Alloy Coatings

Fe-based amorphous coatings prepared by high-velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) spraying have the advantages of good mechanical properties, high density, low porosity, and high amorphous content. The service life and bonding strength of coating greatly depend on its thickness; however, the characterization of ferromagnetic coating thickness is a very difficult problem. Pulsed eddy current (PEC) is characterized by abundant signals in frequency domains. In this paper, the thickness measurement principle of ferromagnetic coating was explored, and the typical and entropy features from PEC signals were extracted. Seven integrated learning methods were combined to quantitatively characterize the coating thickness, namely ridge regression (RR), lasso regression (LR), random forest regression (RFR), extra trees regression (ETR), gradient boosting tree regression (GBTR), addaptive boost regression (ABR) and eXtreme Gradient Boosting Regression (XGBR) algorithms. By comparing typical features with new ones, it was verified that the effective combination of entropy features and typical features could be used as effective feature parameters of eddy current signal. Statistical scores (RMSE and R2) and GridsearchCV features were used to evaluate and optimize the established model. As indicated by the results, the proposed XGBR machine learning model well predicted the coating thickness, and the relative error less than 0.05 mm.

Quantitative Estimation of Fe-Based Amorphous Coating Thickness Based on Pulsed Eddy Current Technology

Influence of microstructure of composite amorphous/nanocrystalline Fe72Ni8Si10B10 alloy on the corrosion behavior in various environments

The effects of solution concentration and temperature on the electrochemical behavior of the Fe-based amorphous (AMCs) coatings in NaCl solution were studied by using conventional electrochemical measurement and XPS analysis. Results indicated that as solution concentration and temperature increased, the current density for the Fe-based AMCs increased and the pitting potential decreased. This reduced corrosion resistance was derived from the decreased passivation index and polarization resistance, which contributed to the decrease of the induction time (tm) for the initiation of corrosion pit. The passive films formed on Fe-based AMCs exhibit two types’ semiconductors higher and lower the flat band potential. The decrease of protectiveness of the passive film was mainly correlated with the reduction of Cr2O3 content, the increase of carrier density and the decrease of the work function (WF).

Sensitivity of Corrosion Behavior for Fe-Based Amorphous Coating to Temperature and Chloride Concentration

The invention discloses a high-corrosion-resistance Al-TM-RE amorphous aluminum alloy, and belongs to the technical field of amorphous alloy materials. The designed Al-TM-RE amorphous aluminum alloy comprises chemical components including, by mole percent, 85-87% of Al, 5.5-6.5% of Ni, 1.5-2.5% of Co, 4.0-5.0% of Y and 0.5-1.5% of RE, wherein RE is Ce or a combination of La and Ce. The Al-TM-RE amorphous aluminum alloy is high in amorphous forming ability, and also has high corrosion resistance. Compared with a traditional Al-TM-RE pentabasic aluminum-based amorphous alloy system, the pittingpotential is increased by 60-140 mVSCE in a 3.5wt.% NaCl solution environment, a passivation film formed by anode polarization is thicker, and the corrosion resistance is better.

The invention discloses a method for improving corrosion resistance of an Al-Y-TM aluminum-based amorphous alloy, and belongs to the technical field of amorphous alloy materials. In the method, the Al-Y-TM aluminum-based amorphous alloy is prepared from, by mole percent, 86-88% of Al, 5-9% of TM and 4.5-5.5% of Y, wherein TM is the composition of one or more of Ni, Ti and Cr. The Al-Y-TM aluminum-based amorphous alloy is high in amorphous forming ability and has high corrosion resistance, the pitting potential can be improved to -0.1V in the 3.5wt.%NaCl solution environment compared with a traditional Al-TM-RE ternary aluminum-based amorphous alloy system, the passivation current density can be reduced by one order of magnitude, the self-corrosion potential is increased, and the Al-Y-TM aluminum-based amorphous alloy is applicable to ship and amphibious aircraft coating materials. Meanwhile, the method is simple, mature, convenient and fast to operate, applicable to industrial production and wide in market prospect.
