Virtual reality technology holds great promise in improving the health and well‐being of older adults; however, this technology is associated with potential risks that may outweigh the benefits. The purpose of this systematic review is to synthesize and critique the existing literature on fully‐immersive virtual reality interventions for older adults and the associated risk of cybersickness.

In too deep? A systematic literature review of fully-immersive virtual reality and cybersickness among older adults.

We conducted an umbrella review of virtual reality (VR) technology interventions and cognitive improvement in older adults with cognitive disorders to establish a hierarchy of evidence. We systematically searched PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and PsycINFO databases from database creation to February 2023. We included meta-analyses relevant to our study objectives for the overall review. We assessed the methodological quality according to AMSTAR2, and we used the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluations (GRADE) method to assess the credibility of the evidence. This overall review was registered with the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (CRD42023423063). We identified six meta-analyses that included 12 cognitive outcomes, but only memory (Standardized Mean Difference(SMD) = 0.27, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.04 to 0.49), depression (SMD = −1.26, 95% CI: −1.8 to −0.72), and global cognition (SMD = 0.42, 95% CI: 0.18 to 0.66) improved through the VR technology intervention. Using the 95% prediction interval (PI) results, we found that VR technology did not significantly affect the cognitive abilities of people with cognitive decline despite increasing the subject size. We conclude that the VR technology intervention improved only specific cognitive abilities. 

Efficacy of virtual reality technology interventions for cognitive and mental outcomes in older people with cognitive disorders: An umbrella review comprising meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials

Purpose Driven by the explosive growth of artificial intelligence, WealthTech has played a pivotal role in reshaping the wealth management industry in recent years. Within this context, this study aims to explain the antecedents of users’ continuance intention to use the WealthTech platform by integrating the technology continuance theory (TCT), task-technology fit (TTF) and digital nudging. Design/methodology/approach To empirically test the research model, an online survey was conducted among 337 investors who had previously used WealthTech platform. The authors used partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to assess the research model and test the hypotheses. Findings PLS-SEM results show that the proposed model has moderate explanatory power in explaining WealthTech continuance intention. The results also found that attitude, digital nudging and satisfaction are important drivers in promoting WealthTech continuance intention. According to importance performance map analysis, digital nudging, expectation confirmation and satisfaction are critical factors in explaining continuance intention, which require managerial action. Originality/value To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is one of the earliest studies that analyze the determinants of WealthTech continuance intention by integrating TCT with TTF and digital nudging. The study’s findings highlight the importance of fit factors and digital nudging in promoting successful WealthTech services. 

Catalysts of successful WealthTech continuous usage: the role of fit factors, usage experience and digital nudging

Mixed Reality (MR) technology is an innovative technology that has the capability to transform and boost productivity in the mining industry. At the same time, the scarcity of guidelines and research in examining the acceptance of MR technology innovation in the mining sector could make the adoption of MR technology innovation unpredictable. Therefore, in order to support the successful adoption of MR technology innovation in the mining sector, this manuscript is designed to better understand the factors influencing its acceptance among workers. Based on the literature review, five factors are hypothesized to influence the acceptance of mining industry workers regarding MR technology innovation. The factors underwent testing on a sample of 253 mining industry workers, which was obtained via an office-intercept survey and processed using SmartPLS software. The model has proven to be highly robust, as indicated by its outstanding scores in validity, reliability, multicollinearity, and goodness of fit. The results from the analysis indicate that attitude, perceived usefulness, and perceived compatibility are significant factors influencing the acceptance of MR technology innovation. While perceived novelty is an important factor affecting attitude, it does not significantly impact the acceptance of MR technology innovation. Moreover, perceived ease of use was not found to be a significant factor in influencing the attitude and intention to adopt MR technology innovation. This research offers both theoretical and managerial implications for its findings. 

Exploring the acceptance of mixed reality technology innovation among mining industry workers

Utilizing SVVR educational materials in calligraphy courses can yield diverse educational effects, while it remains a rather novel instructional approach for students. Considering that the popularity of SVVR educational materials directly influences teaching effectiveness, it is imperative to do further research on students’ cognition to enhance their acceptance of SVVR educational materials. Therefore, adopting the Coolness Feeling Theory, Value Adoption Model (VAM), Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), and Innovation Diffusion Theory (IDT), we have developed a novel structural equation model to investigate the behavioral inclination of students toward utilizing SVVR educational materials. The model includes external variables such as perceived value (PV), perceived enjoyment (PE), perceived vividness (PVV), immersion (IM), information quality (IQ), and perceived coolness (PC). Simultaneously, self-innovation (SINN) is regarded as a moderating variable in the relationship between perceived usefulness (PU) and perceived value (PV). A cohort of 401 participants was verified, and the findings were examined utilizing a structural equation model (SEM). The findings indicated that the inclination of college students to utilize SVVR educational materials was strongly influenced by two factors: PU (β=0.252, P<0.01) and ATT (β=0.572, P<0.001). Furthermore, PC (β=0.257, P<0.001) and PU (β=0.646, P<0.001) exhibited a positive effect on ATT. 2) PV (β=0.404, P<0.001), PVV (β=0.348, P<0.001), and IQ (β=0.239, P<0.001) had a positive effect on PU, IM (β=-0.182, P<0.01) had a negative effect on PU, while PE (β=0.010) had no direct effect on PU. IQ (β=0.657, P<0.001) was positively correlated with PC. 3) Additionally, SINN negatively affects the association between PV and PU within a certain range. These findings provide useful insights and guidance for developing and utilizing SVVR educational materials for university art classes. Simultaneously, the validity of the convergence model is verified, which provides an extended methodology for applying the theoretical model.
