Laser test of the prototype of CEE time projection chamber

In this work, we study the response of a single layer Thick Gaseous Electron Multiplier (THGEM) detector to p/pi(+) at the E3 line of the Beijing Test Beam Facility. The THGEM detector drift gap used in this study is 4 mm, and the gain of the detector operated in Ar+3% iC(4)H(10) is about 2000. p/pi(+) particles at momenta between 500 MeV/c and 1000 MeV/c are distinguished by a Time Of Flight system. Our results show that at the measured momenta, detection efficiencies for p are from 93% to 99%, and for pi(+) in the range of 82%-88%. Meanwhile, simple Geant4 simulations also have been done, and are consistent with the amplitude spectra of the beam test results. We preliminarily study the feasibility of the THGEM detector as a sampling element for a Digital Hadronic Calorimeter (DHCAL), which may provide support for the possible application of a THGEM detector in the Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC) HCAL.

p/pi(+) response of single layer THGEM detector in Ar+3% iC(4)H(10)

Ion back flow(IBF) is defined as the ions that are generated during multiplication in a thick-gas-electron-multiplier (THGEM) detector flow along the electric field. In order to suppress the IBF effect, we study ion transportation for THGEMs with various high voltages and geometrical parameters. By measuring the currents of all the electrodes of the THGEMs, the effective gain and ion back flow ratio are calculated. The measurement and simulation results reveal that with a staggered triple THGEM configuration, ion back flow can be suppressed to 1% with a proper working high voltage. The gain of the staggered configuration is less than that of the aligned configuration by 5% under the same high voltage condition. The design and the results are presented.

Ion Transportation Study for Thick Gas Electron Multipliers

In our experiment, the drift gap of THGEM Detector is 4mm, and the working gas is Ar/3% iso. Result shows at the momentum 500MeV/c to 1000MeV/c, detection efficiency for p is from 93% to 99% in a relatively lower gain($\sim$2000), while the detection efficiency for ${\pi^+}$ is slightly lower than that for p, which is from 82% to 88%. Meanwhile, simple Geant4 simulations have been done, and results of beam test are almost consistent with it. We preliminarily study the feasibility of THGEM detectors as sampling elements for Digital Hadronic Calorimeter(DHCAL), which may provide related reference for THGEM possibly applied in Circular Electron Positron Collider(CEPC) HCAL.

p/${\pi^+}$ response of single layer THGEM detector in Ar/3%iC$_4$H$_{10}$

The working stability of thinner-thick gaseous electron multipliers (THGEMs), which have been developed by the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Second Academy of China's Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation, is studied with an 8 keV x-ray on a Cu target. Gains of about 103–104 are achieved with a single board in Ar:iC4H10 (97:3). Environmental factors, such as pressure, temperature and humidity are considered. The thinner-THGEMs are shown to perform stably over two months of studies.
