Stabilization of G-quadruplex DNA, inhibition of telomerase activity, and tumor cell apoptosis by organoplatinum(II) complexes with oxoisoaporphine.
Zhen-Feng Chen,Qi-Pin Qin,Jiao-Lan Qin,Yan-Cheng Liu,Ke-Bin Huang,Yu-Lan Li,Ting Meng,Guo-Hai Zhang,Yan Peng,Xu-Jian Luo,Hong Liang +10 more
TL;DR: Mechanistic insights indicate that both Pt1 and Pt2 display low toxicity and could be novel anticancer drug candidates.

TCM active ingredient oxoglaucine metal complexes: crystal structure, cytotoxicity, and interaction with DNA.
TL;DR: The interactions of oxoglaucine and its metal complexes with DNA and topoisomerase I were investigated by UV-vis, fluorescence, CD spectroscopy, viscosity, and agarose gel electrophoresis, and the results indicated that these OG-metal complexes interact with DNA mainly via intercalation.

Synthesis, characterization and preliminary cytotoxicity evaluation of five lanthanide(III)-plumbagin complexes.
Zhen-Feng Chen,Ming-Xiong Tan,Ming-Xiong Tan,Yan-Cheng Liu,Yan Peng,Hong-Hong Wang,Hua-Gang Liu,Hong Liang,Hong Liang +8 more
TL;DR: The plumbagin and its lanthanide(III) complexes 1-5, were tested for their in vitro cytotoxicity against BEL7404 (liver cancer) cell lines by MTT (3-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) assay and exhibited a significantly enhanced cytotoxic activity.

Synthesis, crystal structure, cytotoxicity and DNA interaction of 5,7-dibromo-8-quinolinolato-lanthanides.
TL;DR: Four isostructural lanthanide complexes with 5,7-dichloro-8-quinolinoline (H-ClQ) were synthesized, and the binding properties of complexes 1-4 interacted with DNA more strongly than free quinolinoline, and intercalation was the most probable binding mode for both the complexes and quinoline.

Cytotoxicity of the traditional chinese medicine (TCM) plumbagin in its copper chemistry
Zhen-Feng Chen,Ming-Xiong Tan,Ming-Xiong Tan,Li-Min Liu,Yan-Cheng Liu,Heng-Shan Wang,Bin Yang,Yan Peng,Hua-Gang Liu,Hong Liang,Hong Liang,Chris Orvig +11 more
TL;DR: The in vitro cytotoxicity of PLN, 1 and 2 against seven human tumour cell lines was assayed, suggesting that these compounds display synergy in the combination of metal ions with PLN.
