Purpose—The sale of physical products has been manufacturing companies’ main revenue source. A trend is known as servitization for earning revenue comes from services. With the convergence of servitization and digitization, many manufacturing organizations are undergoing digital servitization. In parallel, the digitization of industry is pushing new technological solutions to the top of the business agenda. Artificial intelligence can play a substantial role in this digital business transformation. This evolution is referred to in this paper as Servitization 5.0 and requires substantial changes. Aim—This paper explores the applications of artificial intelligence to Servitization 5.0 strategies and its role, particularly in changing organizations to EverythiA.I.ng as a Service. The paper underlines the contribution that A.I. can provide in moving to a human-centric, sustainable, and resilient servitization. Method used—The basis of the work is a literature review supported by information collected from business case studies by the authors. A follow-up study defined the models. The validity of the model was tested by collecting ten experts’ opinions who currently work within servitization contracts sessions. Findings—For manufacturing companies, selling services requires completely different business models. In this situation, it is essential to consider advanced solutions to support these new business models. Artificial Intelligence can make it possible. On the inter-organizational side, empirical evidence also points to the support of A.I. in collaborating with ecosystems to support sustainability and resilience, as requested by Industry 5.0. Original value—Regarding theoretical implications, this paper contributes to interdisciplinary research in corporate marketing and operational servitization. It is part of the growing literature that deals with the applications of artificial intelligence-based solutions in different areas of organizational management. The approach is interesting because it highlights that digital solutions require an integrated business model approach. It is necessary to implement the technological platform with appropriate processes, people, and partners (the four Ps). The outcome of this study can be generalized for industries in high-value manufacturing. Implications—As implications for management, this paper defines how to organize the structure and support for Servitization 5.0 and how to work with the external business environment to support sustainability.

Impact of digital finance on urban ecological resilience: evidence from the Yangtze River Economic Belt in China.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to perform bibliometric analysis to systematically and comprehensively examine the current landscape of digital knowledge, integration and performance in the transformation of sustainability accounting, reporting and assurance. Design/methodology/approach This research uses a systematic literature review, following the Scientific Procedures and Rationales for Systematic Literature Review protocol and uses various bibliometric and performance analytical methods. These include annual scientific production analysis, journal analysis, keyword cooccurrence analysis, keyword clustering, knowledge gap analysis and future research direction identification to evaluate the existing literature thoroughly. Findings The analysis reveals significant insights into the transformative impact of digital technologies on sustainability practices. Annual scientific production and journal analyses highlight key contributors to the adoption of digital technologies in sustainability accounting, reporting and assurance. Keyword cooccurrence analyses have identified key themes in sustainability accounting, reporting and assurance, highlighting the transformative role of digital technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, Internet of Things (IoT) and big data. These technologies enhance corporate accountability, transparency and sustainability by automating processes and improving data accuracy. The integration of these technologies supports environmental, social and governance (ESG) reporting, circular economy initiatives and strategic decision-making, fostering economic, social and environmental sustainability. Cluster-by-coupling analyses delve into nine broader revealing that IoT improves ESG report accuracy, eXtensible Business Reporting Language structures ESG data and AI enhances life cycle assessments and reporting authenticity. In addition, digital transformation impacts environmental performance, big data optimizes resource use and edge computing improves eco-efficiency. Furthermore, this study identifies avenues for future research to advance the understanding and implementation of digital technology in sustainability accounting, reporting and assurance practices. Research limitations/implications Academically, this research enriches the understanding of how digital technologies shape sustainability practices and identifies gaps in digital knowledge and integration. Practically, it provides actionable insights for organizations to improve sustainability reporting and performance by effectively leveraging these technologies. Policy-wise, the findings advocate for frameworks supporting the effective implementation of these technologies, ensuring alignment with global sustainability goals. Originality/value This study offers a detailed analysis of the performance and intellectual framework of research on implementing digital technology in sustainability accounting, reporting and assurance. It highlights the evolving research landscape and emphasizes the need for further investigation into how emerging technologies can be leveraged to achieve sustainability goals. 

Exploring the impact of digital knowledge, integration and performance on sustainable accounting, reporting and assurance

Investigating the impact of digital business ecosystem in enhancing Islamic mobile banking adoption through the TOE framework

The primary focus of research groups and centers is to develop sustainable solutions that address the problems faced by society. This article introduces a digital ecosystem platform that encompasses crucial areas like education, health, industry 4.0, and care environments, leveraging mobile and ubiquitous technology. The project aims to establish a digital and pervasive ecosystem through mobile technology, streamlining data management and the implementation of ubiquitous solutions in priority areas of the country. It’s intended to provide accessible solutions in education, health, industry 4.0, and care environments for both civil society and research initiatives centered around open science. End-users will be able to access the developed platform and retrieve datasets and other resources generated by different research projects, all stored within the platform’s infrastructure. Furthermore, a comprehensive dashboard will be provided to offer an insightful overview of the data’s dynamics within the ecosystem. 

Towards a Digital and Ubiquitous Ecosystem of Mobile Technology-Based Solutions to Facilitate Data Management Based on Sustainable Development Goals

While the notion of digitalization and sustainability has become prominent in current research, more can be done to bridge these two concepts and explain the interaction between them. Plenty of literature has focused on the impact of digital technology applications and business model innovations on environmental performance but has not considered the counterforce of environmental performance on digitalization. We investigated this question from the perspective of digital ecosystem architects to explore more organic relationships. By analyzing data from 1083 listed firms from 2014 to 2019, we found various effective paths for architects to participate in the digital ecosystem and determined that improved environmental performance has led to more efficient convergence. Digital servitization adopted by private architects contributes to financial performance, whereas the addition of digital infrastructure enables public architects to play a greater role. This is reflected in the discovery that firms with “high” environmental performance can improve their financial performance far more significantly with the help of digital servitization compared to other firms. However, digital infrastructure development can benefit all firms almost indiscriminately. We encourage firms and governments to work together to strengthen digital infrastructure, build digital ecosystems, and focus on environmental performance while transitioning to digital servitization.

A Sustainable Digital Ecosystem: Digital Servitization Transformation and Digital Infrastructure Support

Digital finance has become an important development strategy in China and plays an irreplaceable role in the upgrading of China’s industrial structure. This paper uses panel data from 30 provinces in China from 2011 to 2020 to study the impact of digital finance on industrial structure. The study finds that the impact of digital finance on industrial structure shows a U-shaped relationship. The development of digital finance will promote the transformation and upgrading of industrial structure when it reaches a certain stage. The results of the sub-dimension show that the coverage breadth and depth of use of digital finance also have a U-shaped relationship with the industrial structure. The impact of digital finance on industrial structure has regional heterogeneity. Finally, the impact of digital finance on different industries also varies.

Study on the Impact of Digital Finance on the Upgrading of China’s Industrial Structure

Research on rural-urban construction land expansion is on the macro perspective at home and abroad. However there is less research on detail characteristics and internal mutation of rural-urban construction land expansion, so that the accurate spatial distribution of rural-urban construction land may not be realized. In this paper, Tonglu County of Zhejiang Province is selected as study area. The spatial characteristic in micro level of rural-urban construction land is analyzed based on the spatial residual distribution of geographically weighted regression model. Residual of the model is used to describe the difference between actuality value and simulation value. Original residual of the model is standardized, which describes the hot spots and cold spots for development of rural-urban construction land. This research will support the micro decision-making of rural-urban construction land both in technology and decision, and guarantee the healthy development of rural-urban construction land with rational distribution.

Study on Spatial Characteristic in Micro Level of Rural-Urban Construction Land Expansion Based on the GWR Model - A Case Study in Tonglu County of Zhejiang Province

The paper industry is closely related to forestry resources, which constitute an essential part of achieving sustainable development. Green credit can provide financial support to assist the paper industry in achieving carbon neutrality. To develop a method for performing green credit risk assessments in the paper industry, first, an initial index system was established on the basis of two dimensions: financial risk and socio-environmental risk. Then, the KMV model was applied to measure credit risk. The combined results of this model, along with the environmental penalties of an enterprise, formed the basis for the classification of green credit risk. Third, the Gini index was used to filter out, one by one, the indexes with the least influence among the factors, and then random forest iterations were performed until the prediction accuracy reached the optimum, thus establishing a green credit risk prediction model for the paper industry. The results show that the accuracy of the sample classification reached 93.75%, and the accuracy of the sample classification for high-risk enterprises reached 100%. The established index system offers good guidance for the assessment of green credit risk in the paper industry, in which the interest coverage ratio, current ratio, asset-liability ratio, and green emissions are the main factors affecting green credit risk.
