This manuscript presents a comprehensive review of the possibilities offered by nanotechnology in the context of high-performance textiles. Nanotechnology embodies a groundbreaking innovation for the textile and apparel industry, facilitating enhancements to the functionality and performance of textiles, including durability, resistance to water, odor, flame, stain, UV-protection, and antimicrobial properties. Nanotechnology also enables biosensing, drug delivery, energy generation, and storage in textiles. The review scrutinizes the current research on nanotechnology in textiles, exploring various types of nanomaterials and their properties, the methods of incorporating nanomaterials into textiles, and the numerous applications of high-performance textiles across critical industries such as healthcare, military, sports, fashion, and wearable electronics. The manuscript concludes with an analysis of the potential health and environmental concerns arising from the use of nanotechnology in textiles, emphasizing the importance of further research in these areas. Overall, this review highlights the immense potential of nanotechnology in the domain of high-performance textiles while providing a roadmap for future research and development in this exciting field. 

Nanotechnology for High‐Performance Textiles: A Promising Frontier for Innovation

Abstract Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have attracted great attentions in the field of electronics, sensors, healthcare, and energy conversion. Such emerging applications have driven the carbon nanotube research in a rapid fashion. Indeed, the structure control over CNTs has inspired an intensive research vortex due to the high promises in electronic and optical device applications. Here, this in-depth review is anticipated to provide insights into the controllable synthesis and applications of high-quality CNTs. First, the general synthesis and post-purification of CNTs are briefly discussed. Then, the state-of-the-art electronic device applications are discussed, including field-effect transistors, gas sensors, DNA biosensors, and pressure gauges. Besides, the optical sensors are delivered based on the photoluminescence. In addition, energy applications of CNTs are discussed such as thermoelectric energy generators. Eventually, future opportunities are proposed for the Internet of Things (IoT) oriented sensors, data processing, and artificial intelligence.

Gas sensors are extensively employed for monitoring and detection of hazardous gases and vapors. Many of them are produced on rigid substrates, but flexible and wearable gas sensors are needed for intriguing usage including the internet of things (IoT) and medical devices. The materials with the greatest potential for the fabrication of flexible and wearable gas sensing devices are two-dimensional (2D) semiconducting nanomaterials, which consist of graphene and its substitutes, transition metal dichalcogenides, and MXenes. These types of materials have good mechanical flexibility, high charge carrier mobility, a large area of surface, an abundance of defects and dangling bonds, and, in certain instances adequate transparency and ease of synthesis. In this review, we have addressed the different 2D nonmaterial properties for gas sensing in the context of fabrication of flexible/wearable gas sensors. We have discussed the sensing performance of flexible/wearable gas sensors in various forms such as pristine, composite and noble metal decorated. We believe that content of this review paper is greatly useful for the researchers working in the research area of fabrication of flexible/wearable gas sensors. 

2D nanomaterials for realization of flexible and wearable gas sensors: A review.

Supercapacitors (SCs) have been intensively studied in energy storage because of excellent power density, exceptional stability, long cycle lifetimes and eco-friendly properties. The electrode material is an important factor affecting the performance of supercapacitors. NiCo2S4 has been widely studied as SCs electrode material owing to preeminent specific capacitance, tunable electronic structure and excellent cycling stability. However, the application of NiCo2S4 is hampered by their inherent low conductivity and charge/discharge volume expansion. Tuning electronic structures of NiCo2S4 or building heterogeneous structures with other materials are effective approaches to address these issues. Therefore, it is of great significance to comprehensively summarize advances and modification strategies of NiCo2S4-based electrode materials from various perspectives. This review summarized recent advancements in NiCo2S4-based electrode materials on SCs. Firstly, we briefly introduced the crystal structure, electrochemical energy storage characteristics and electrochemical energy storage mechanism of NiCo2S4 materials. Then, based on two major modification ideas of defect engineering and material recombination, we discussed and summarized several modification strategies of NiCo2S4 in detail, mainly including elemental doping and surface defects, composite design with carbon materials, transition metal oxides/hydroxides/sulfides, conductive polymers (CPs) and other materials. Finally, we proposed challenges and prospects for the development of NiCo2S4-based nanocomposites as SCs electrodes.
