The mathematical model is developed for the submerged cavatation jet flow. The mathematical model, which is utilized to describe filed flow, is k-e turbulent model. Vapor volume fraction f is obtained by vapor transport equation. Nozzles of cavitation jet flow are designed for the carrying out of experimental study. Simulation of fluid flow for cavitation jet flow is carried out to obtain velocity, pressure and vapor volume fraction. The cavitation phenomenon is proven very obvious for angular nozzle. The cavitation experiments are conducted to show the cavitation phenomena.

Numerical Simulation and Experimental Study of Cavitation Jet Flow

Cavitation occurred in nuclear reactor coolant pump should be avoided. In this paper, the flow field in the mix-flow pump substituting the reactor coolant pump is simulated through the use of standard k-? two equations model and cavitation model in mixed multiphase flow. The investigations of flow field at off-design conditions are conducted. Through changing inlet pressure, flow rate and temperature of fluid, critical cavitation state is determined. The results of simulation are presented and discussed at these different cases. The conclusions drawn from this paper lay a foundation to further study of cavitation in reactor coolant pump.

Mathematical model of cavitation jet flow is studied, hydraulic characters of the designed conical nozzle and angle nozzle are simulated in developed cavitation jet flow experimental equipment, the simulated velocity of flow field, pressure and cavity density is analyzed, which guiding the design of nozzle, and providing data fundmenatal for further cavitation jet flow field simulation and experimental study.

The influence of phase-change coefficients in a cavitation model was studied using a numerical method. By comparing the numerical results and experimental data, the relationships of evaporation coefficients & cavitation number and condensation coefficients & cavitation number are obtained. The results of a 2D axisymmetric hemispherical cylinder under different cavitation numbers show that: different cavitation numbers are corresponding to different phase-change coefficients, and variations of the coefficients of evaporation and condensation have a great influence respectively on the main cavity, secondary cavity, rear cavity, and other types of cavity in cavity shape, collapse position, collapse strength, and so on.

Study of the influence of phase-change coefficients in the cavitation model

In this paper, the flow field and trajectory of supercavitating projectile are calculated. Based on Fluent software, the axisymmetric calculation model is established, and the numerical simulation method of projectile underwater high-speed trajectory is established. Firstly, the simulation calculation of cavitation shape in the velocity range of 90m/s~190m/s is carried out, which is compared with the classical formula to verify the effectiveness of the calculation method. Then, the numerical simulation of the projectile in the water with initial velocity of 80m/s-130m/s is carried out. The numerical results show that when the engine is not ignited and the initial velocity is 90m/s, the projectile shows a “head up” navigation trend, and no complete supercavitation is formed at this time. In the velocity range of 100m/s-130m/s, the overall motion of the projectile shows a “bow” trend, the projectile is completely wrapped by cavitation, and the projectile does not collide with the cavitation wall. After the engine generates thrust, the maximum range can reach 70m under the action of this thrust.
