Cobalt(II) complexes with bis(N-imidazolyl/benzimidazolyl) pyridazine: Structures, photoluminescent and photocatalytic properties

Cadmium (Cd) is a transition metal that is toxic to living organisms in the environment and endangers living organisms. To explore whether Cd induces apoptosis in pig thymus and its possible mechanism, the role Cd induction of the PTEN/PI3K/Akt pathway in apoptosis of thymus cells was studied in pigs. We found that Cd exposure (the feed is treated with Cd) significantly increased Cd accumulation in the thymus of pigs. The TUNEL assay confirmed the typical apoptotic characteristics of thymus in Cd group. Moreover, in the Cd group, the activities of antioxidant indices decreased significantly, while the levels of oxidative stress indexes increased significantly, and the mRNA levels of GSH, CAT, Gpx1, GST, SOD1, and SOD2 decreased obviously. Moreover, the mRNA and protein levels of PTEN/PI3K/AKT and apoptosis-related genes were detected by qPCR and western blotting. The results show that the expressions of PI3K and AKT decreased, while the expression of PTEN increased, indicating that pathway activated. With the PTEN/PI3K/AKT pathway regulating, Bcl-2 expression decreased. Conversely, the mRNA and protein expression of apoptosis-related genes were up-regulated. In conclusion, accumulation of Cd in the pigs caused oxidative damage to immune tissues. In addition, Cd-induced oxidative stress activates the PTEN/PI3K/AKT pathway, inducing apoptosis in the thymus of pigs.

Since its introduction into China in 2001, laparoscopic techniques have been extensively used for the surgical management of colorectal cancer during the last two decades in China. Like all the pioneers of the technique, Chinese gastrointestinal surgeons claim that laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer led to faster recovery, shorter hospital stay and more rapid return to daily activities respect to open surgery while offering the same functional and oncological results. There has been booming interest in laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer since 2006 in China. The last decade has witnessed national growth in the application of laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer and yielded a significant amount of scientific data to support its clinical merits and advantages. However, few prospective randomized controlled trials have investigated the benefits of laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer in China. In this article, we make an overview of the current data and state of the art of laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer in China.

Laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer in China: an overview.

The innate immune response of pulmonary endothelial cells (EC) to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induces Forkhead box protein C2 (FOXC2) activation through Toll Like Receptor 4 (TLR4). The mechanisms by which FOXC2 expression is regulated in lung EC under LPS stimulation remain unclear. We postulated that FOXC2 regulates its own expression in sepsis, and its transcriptional autoregulation directs lymphatic EC cell-fate decision. Bioinformatic analysis identified potential FOXC2 binding sites in the FOXC2 promoter. In human lung EC, we verified using chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) and luciferase assays that FOXC2 bound to its own promoter and stimulated its expression after LPS stimulation. Chemical inhibition of histone acetylation by garcinol repressed LPS-induced histone acetylation in the FOXC2 promoter region, and disrupted LPS-mediated FOXC2 binding and transcriptional activation. CRISPR/dCas9/gRNA directed against FOXC2-binding-element (FBE) suppressed LPS-stimulated FOXC2 binding and autoregulation by blocking FBEs in the FOXC2 promoter, and repressed expression of lymphatic EC markers. In a neonatal mouse model of sterile sepsis, LPS-induced FOXC2 binding to FBE and FOXC2 expression in lung EC was attenuated with garcinol treatment. These data reveal a new mechanism of LPS-induced histone acetylation-dependent FOXC2 autoregulation.

FOXC2 Autoregulates Its Expression in the Pulmonary Endothelium After Endotoxin Stimulation in a Histone Acetylation-Dependent Manner.

The invention discloses a polyacid-based metal organic frame proton conductor material of inorganic acid molecule functionalization. The preparation method comprises the following steps: firstly preparing the polyacid-based metal organic frame, uniformly mixing the prepared polyacid-based metal organic frame and HA solution, separating the material, washing, drying to obtain the polyacid-based metal organic frame proton conductor material of the inorganic acid molecule functionalization.

Prognosis remains one of most crucial determinants of gastric cancer (GC) treatment, but current methods do not predict prognosis accurately. Identification of additional biomarkers is urgently required to identify patients at risk of poor prognoses. Tissue microarrays were used to measure expression of nine GC-associated proteins in GC tissue and normal gastric tissue samples. Hierarchical cluster analysis of microarray data and feature selection for factors associated with survival were performed. Based on these data, prognostic scoring models were established to predict clinical outcomes. Finally, ingenuity pathway analysis (IPA) was used to identify a biological GC network. Eight proteins were upregulated in GC tissues versus normal gastric tissues. Hierarchical cluster analysis and feature selection showed that overall survival was worse in cyclin dependent kinase (CDK)2, Akt1, X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis protein (XIAP), Notch4, and phosphorylated (p)-protein kinase C (PKC) α/β2 immunopositive patients than in patients that were immunonegative for these proteins. Risk score models based on these five proteins and clinicopathological characteristics were established to determine prognoses of GC patients. These proteins were found to be involved in cancer related-signaling pathways and upstream regulators were identified. This study identified proteins that can be used as clinical biomarkers and established a risk score model based on these proteins and clinicopathological characteristics to assess GC prognosis.

Objective To investigate the efficacy of laparoscope complete mesocolic excision (CME) for right colon cancer.Methods The clinical data of 49 cases of right colon cancer without metastasis and intestinal obstruction who underwent elective laparoscope CME by the same group of surgeons between October 2009 and June 2011 at the First Hospital of Jilin University were analyzed retrospectively.Results Among the 49 cases with CME,the median number of total lymph node retrieved was 22.The positive rate of lymph node in patients with stage Ⅲ disease was 16.3％.The median operative time of all the cases was 145 min.The mean intraoperative blood loss was 75 ml.The median time to flatus passage and defecation was 3 days and 6 days respectively.The median hospital stay was 12 days.The overall postoperative complication rate was 12.2％ (6/49).Conclusion Laparoscope complete mesocolic excision for right colon cancer is safe and feasible.

Laparoscopic gastrectomy has been widely accepted both in China and abroad. Due to the local complex anatomy of stomach and high demand for lymph node dissection, this approach is still hard to be widely performed in primary hospitals. We have begun the laparoscopic gastrectomy since 2009. So far we have completed 349 cases of laparoscopic distal gastric D2 radical surgery.

Anatomy of laparoscopy-assisted distal D2 radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer

The title coordination polymer, {[Cd(C8H4O4)(C14H14N4)]·C3H7NO}n, was synthesized by solvothermal reaction of metallic cadmium with the semi-rigid neutral ligand 1,4-bis­[(1H-imidazol-1-yl)meth­yl]benzene (bix) and the V-shaped benzene-1,3-di­carb­oxy­lic acid (m-H2bdc). The structure exhibits a pseudo-C-centring which is almost fulfilled by the polymeric metal complex but not by the solvent dimethylform­amide (DMF) mol­ecules. The asymmetric unit contains two independent CdII ions, two m-bdc2− ligands, one and two half bix ligands, and two solvent DMF mol­ecules. The CdII ions are both five-coordinated by three O atoms from two different m-bdc2− ligands and two N atoms from two different bix ligands in a distorted square-pyramidal geometry. The m-bdc2− ligands adopt a chelate-monodentate coordination mode, connecting neighboring CdII ions into a zigzag chain parallel to [110]. Adjacent chains are further cross-linked by bix ligands, giving rise to a puckered sheet nearly perpendicular to the chain direction. Thus, each CdII ion is connected to four neighboring CdII ions through two m-bdc2− anions and two bix ligands, giving rise to the final non-inter­penetrating uninodal layer with sql (4,4) topology.
