A study on the tensile and flexural properties of jute-glass-carbon fibers reinforced epoxy hybrid composites in inter-ply configuration is presented in this paper. Test specimens were manufactured by hand lay-up process and their tensile and flexural properties were obtained. The effects of the hybridization, different fibers content and plies stacking sequence on the mechanical properties of the tested hybrid composites were investigated. Two-parameter Weibull distribution function was used to statistically analyze the experimental results. The failure probability graphs for the tested composites were drawn. These graphs are important tools for helping the designers to understand and choose the suitable material for the required design and development. Results showed that the hybridization process can potentially improve the tensile and flexural properties of jute reinforced composite. The flexural strength decreases when partial laminas from a carbon/epoxy laminate are replaced by glass/epoxy or jute/epoxy laminas. Also, it is realized that incorporating high strength fibers to the outer layers of the composite leads to higher flexural resistance, whilst the order of the layers doesn’t affect the tensile properties.

Evaluation of mechanical properties of jute/glass/carbon fibers reinforced hybrid composites

The Weibull distribution is the standard function used by the wind energy community to model the wind speed frequency distribution. In this study, four methods are presented for estimating Weibull parameters (Shape and Scale), namely, Maximum likelihood method (MLM), Rank regression method (RRM), Mean-standard deviation method (MSD), and Power density method (PDM). To compare the methods, a period of 4 years (2001 - 2004) of monthly time series data of Halabja city was considered. Two distinct analytical methods are studied to determine the parameter estimation accuracy of these methods; coefficient of determination and root mean square error (RMSE) are used as measurement tools. The Rank regression and MSDs are recommended to estimate the shape parameter; also the Rank regression is recommended for use with our time series wind data to estimate the scale parameter.

Stand growth and yield models include whole-stand models, individual-tree models, and diameter- distribution models. Based on the growth data of Chinese pine (Pinus tabulaeformis Carr.) in Beijing, forecast combination was used to adjust predicted stand basal areas from these three types of models. The forecast combination method combines information and disperses errors from different models to improve forecast performance. In this study, weights of the three model estimates used in the forecast combination estimator were determined by the optimal weight method. Results showed that the forecast combination method provided overall better predictions of stand basal area than the three types of models. It also improved the compatibility of stand basal area growth predicted from models of different resolutions and provided a method for integration of stand basal area. FOR .S CI. 56(6):552-557.

Weibull distribution was used to fit tree diameter data collected from 86 sample plots located in Chinese pine stand in Beijing. To estimate the Weibull distribution parameters, three methods (namely maximum likelihood estimation method (MLE), method of moment (MOM) and least-squares regression method (LSM)) were compared and evaluated on the basis of the mean square error (MSE) and sample size. For these sample plots, the moment method was superior for estimating the parameters of Weibull distribution for tree diameter distribution.
