Th2 cytokine-induced upregulation of 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase-1 facilitates glucocorticoid suppression of proasthmatic airway smooth muscle function
Aihua Hu,Sumbul Fatma,Jing Cao,Judith S. Grunstein,Gustavo Nino,Y. Grumbach,Michael M. Grunstein +6 more
TL;DR: A Th2 cytokine-driven homeostatic feedback mechanism in ASM is identified that enhances its responsiveness to endogenous GCs by upregulating 11beta-HSD1 activity, thereby curtailing the adverse effects of the proasthmatic cytokine on airway function.

Lipoxin A(4) and interleukin-8 levels in cystic fibrosis sputum after antibiotherapy.
TL;DR: A correlation between antibiotics treatments and inflammatory markers in CF sputum is reported, providing evidences for a novel effect of antibiotics increasing the concentration of the anti-inflammatory lipid mediator LXA(4).

IL-13-induced changes in endogenous glucocorticoid metabolism in the lung regulate the proasthmatic response
Maureen B. Josephson,Junfang Jiao,Shuyun Xu,Aihua Hu,Chinmay Paranjape,Judith S. Grunstein,Y. Grumbach,Gustavo Nino,Portia A. Kreiger,Portia A. Kreiger,Joseph M. McDonough,Michael M. Grunstein +11 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the proasthmatic effects of IL-13 are enabled by impaired endogenous GC activation in the lung that is attributed to upregulation of 11β-HSD2 in the pulmonary epithelium.

Rapid anti-secretory effects of glucocorticoids in human airway epithelium.
TL;DR: It is demonstrated, that dexamethasone at low concentrations, rapidly regulates intracellular pH, Ca(2+) and PKA activity and inhibits Cl(-) secretion in human bronchial epithelial cells via a non-genomic mechanism which neither involve the classical glucocorticoid nor mineralocortioid receptor.
