Molecular mechanisms of plant growth promotion for methylotrophic Bacillus aryabhattai LAD
TL;DR: The genome-based information and experimental evidence demonstrated that B. aryabhattai strain LAD with diverse metabolic capabilities and positive interactions with plants has tremendous potential for adaptation to the dynamic soil environments and promoting plant growth.
The use of mutant and engineered microbial agents for biological control of plant diseases caused by Pythium: Achievements versus challenges
Siqiao Chen,Paul Daly,Dong-Po Zhou,Jingjing Li,Xiaoyu Wang,Sheng Deng,Hui Feng,Chunting Wang,Taha Majid Mahmood Sheikh,Yifan Chen,Tai-Qiang Xue,Feng Cai,Christian P. Kubicek,Lihui Wei,Irina S. Druzhinina +14 more
TL;DR: In this article , the role of seven key mechanisms: cellulases, carbon catabolite de-repression, glycosylation, reactive oxygen species, chitin re-modeling, proteases, and toxic secondary metabolites.

Volatile Organic Compounds from Pythium oligandrum Play a Role in Its Parasitism on Plant-Pathogenic Pythium myriotylum
Taha Majid Mahmood Sheikh,Dong-Po Zhou,Muhammad Saleem Haider,Sarfraz Hussain,Nianshuang Wang,Siqiao Chen,Yishen Zhao,Xian Wen,Hui Feng,Xiaoyu Wang,Jinfeng Zhang,Lunji Wang,Sheng Deng,Waseem Raza,Lihui Wei,Paul Daly +15 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors investigated the contribution of P. oligandrum-produced volatile organic compounds (VOCs) to parasitism of oomycete Pythium myriotylum and found that exposure to the VOCs led to shrinkage of hyphae and lysis of the cellular membranes and organelles.

Volatile Organic Compounds Emitted by the Biocontrol Agent Pythium oligandrum Contribute to Ginger Plant Growth and Disease Resistance
Taha Majid Mahmood Sheikh,Dong-Po Zhou,H. Ali,Sarfraz Hussain,Nianshuang Wang,Siqiao Chen,Yishen Zhao,Xian Wen,Xiaoyu Wang,Jinfeng Zhang,Lunji Wang,Sheng Deng,Hui Feng,Waseem Raza,Pengxiao Fu,Hao Peng,Lihui Wei,Paul Daly +17 more
TL;DR: Growth enhancement and disease reduction in plants exposed to P. oligandrum-produced VOCs contribute to its role as a biocontrol agent, and the upregulation of genes involved in plant growth hormone signaling and stress responses are revealed.
