The proposed microstrip bandpass filters in this paper have compact sizes and narrow band responses which are the requirements of modern wireless communication circuits. These filters are constructed from dual-edge coupled resonators; each resonator is based on applying step impedance resonator generator on first and second iteration of Hilbert fractal resonators on each segment of each iteration level. They have been designed for the industrial, scientific, and medical band (ISM) band applications at a centre frequency of 2.4 GHz using a substrate with a dielectric coefficient of 9.6 and thickness of 0.508 mm. The performance of bandpass filters has been analysed using a method of moments (MoM) based on software package, Microwave Office 2009, from Advanced Wave Research Inc., which is widely adopted in microwave research and industry. New Microstrip Bandpass Filter Designs Based on Stepped Impedance Hilbert Fractal Resonators

This paper presents new Wide Bandpass Filter (WBPF) and Narrow Bandstop Filter (NBSF) incorporating two microstrip resonators, each resonator is based on 2nd iteration of Hilbert fractal geometry. The type of filter as pass or reject band has been adjusted by coupling gap parameter (d) between Hilbert resonators using a substrate with a dielectric constant of 10.8 and a thickness of 1.27 mm. Numerical simulation results as well as a parametric study of d parameter on filter type and frequency responses are presented and studied. WBPF has designed at resonant frequencies of 2 and 2.2 GHz with a bandwidth of 0.52 GHz, −28 dB return loss and −0.125 dB insertion loss while NBSF has designed for electrical specifications of 2.37 GHz center frequency, 20 MHz rejection bandwidth, −0.1873 dB return loss and 13.746 dB insertion loss. The proposed technique offers a new alternative to construct low-cost high-performance filter devices, suitable for a wide range of wireless communication systems.

Wide Bandpass and Narrow Bandstop Microstrip Filters Based on Hilbert Fractal Geometry: Design and Simulation Results

|In this article, two compact Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) bandpass (cid:12)lters based on Defected Ground Structure (DGS) technology are proposed. Hilbert Cell of second order is the resonator shape proposed for the DGS of both (cid:12)lters, where the (cid:12)rst (cid:12)lter DGS consists of (cid:12)ve pairs, and the second one uses only three pairs. The pair used in the (cid:12)rst (cid:12)lter consists of two cells located side to side whereas they are placed face to face in the second (cid:12)lter. In order to enhance the performance of the second (cid:12)lter and based on the evanescent-mode technique, three other pairs of (cid:12)rst order Hilbert cells are engraved on the top layer. Both bandpass (cid:12)lters are designed to operate in C band with a measured bandwidth of 1.8 GHz for the (cid:12)rst (cid:12)lter and 0.86 GHz for the second one. The proposed structures have the same physical dimensions, which is 38 : 1 mm (cid:2) 16 mm with diﬀerent measured insertion losses of (cid:0) 2 : 5 dB and (cid:0) 2 : 7 dB. Both structures exhibit an upper stopband rejection with attenuation around (cid:0) 20 dB and (cid:0) 29 dB, respectively. The (cid:12)lters operate in a transmission bandwidth of [5.5 GHz|7.3 GHz] and [5.27 GHz{6.13 GHz] with a fractional bandwidth (FBW) of 28.1% and 15.09% for the (cid:12)rst (cid:12)lter and the second (cid:12)lter, respectively. Bandpass filters based on hybrid structure of substrate integrated waveguide (siw) and hilbert defected ground structure (hdgs)

ABSTRACT This paper demonstrates a novel configuration of half mode substrate integrated waveguide HMSIW bandpass selective filter based on Hilbert cells as DGS. Two 50-Ohm conventional micro-strip are used as feed lines. The filter is designed and optimized using CST Software, Where a parametric study is used to optimize its geometric parameters. In our design, six periodic Hilbert cells are used, which are work collectively with three transverse slots to generate the desired resonance frequency. The used dielectric substrate is FR4 with a relative permittivity of 4.3. The proposed filter operates at the frequency of 3.25 GHz with an insertion loss about of −2 dB and a rejection extended from 1 GHz to 3.2 GHz and from 3.4 GHz to 7 GHz respectively for the lower and the higher sides with a level more than −35 dB. The filter is fabricated and measured, where the obtained measurements show a clear crystal similarity with the simulated results. The proposed filter is considered for TD LTE applications.

Miniaturized and optimized half mode SIW bandpass filter design integrating Hilbert cells as DGS

In this paper, we present a novel wideband common-mode suppression filter for high-speed differential signals using asymmetric spiral-shaped defected ground structure (DGS). It is optimized by using genetic algorithm (GA) to achieve a wide stopband. With the proposed method, a single asymmetric DGS, which is one of the most common structures, can provide over 10dB suppression of common-mode noise with a small differential insertion loss in a frequency range from 3.1 to 10.6GHz, covering the operating frequency band of the ultra-wideband (UWB) radio system. Our design fully shows the advantage of simplification when employing GA on DGS-based common-mode filter (CMF).

A new fuzzy genetic algorithm (FGA) is developed to reduce crosstalk of T-shape microstrip lines in high speed circuit systems, which is used to optimize the ground plane with photonic bandgap (PBG) structure. The genetic operators (crossover and mutation) are adjusted self-adaptively by fuzzy controller and good convergent character and global optimization are improved. Based on the PML-FDTD method, the fitness value is established by taking the sum of weighted performance index function of crosstalk and return loss, through which is optimized the crosstalk between T-shape microstrip line and adjacent line in the ground plane. Comparing the simulation results of the fitness function using different parameters, numerical results demonstrate that the crosstalk is decreased 8dB which is caused by T-shape microstrip line and adjacent line above the photonic band gap ground. Then the return loss and the signal distortion reduce effectively.
