Characteristics of the water- and alkali-soluble hemicelluloses fractionated by sequential acidification and graded-ethanol from sweet maize stems.
TL;DR: Structural characterizations indicated that alkali-soluble hemicelluloses fractionated from sweet maize stems were mainly arabinoxylans, and fundamental information on hemiceLLuloses composition and structure and their potential utilization in the fields of biofuels, biochemicals, and biomaterials was provided.

Sucrose and starch metabolism during Fargesia yunnanensis shoot growth
Shuguang Wang,Pei Jialong,Li Juan,Guo-jian Tang,Jing-wei Zhao,Xiaopeng Peng,Shuangxi Nie,Yulong Ding,Chang-ming Wang +8 more
TL;DR: The results showed that there were higher sucrose contents in shoot buds than shoots, which coincides with the sweeter taste of shoot buds, and complement the understanding of the physiological differences between shoot buds and elongating shoots and ascertain the physiological mechanism for the rapid growth of bamboo shoots.

Thermal Stability Analysis of Polyurethane Foams Made from Microwave Liquefaction Bio-Polyols with and Without Solid Residue
Xingyan Huang,Cornelis F. De Hoop,Xiaopeng Peng,Jiulong Xie,Jinqiu Qi,Yongze Jiang,Hui Xiao,Shuangxi Nie +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the thermal stability of bio-based polyurethane (PU) foams made from liquefaction bio-polyols with and without solid residue were analyzed by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR).

Bamboo Nanocellulose/Montmorillonite Nanosheets/Polyethyleneimine Gel Adsorbent for Methylene Blue and Cu(II) Removal from Aqueous Solutions
Xuelun Zhang,Feng Li,Xiyu Zhao,Jiwen Cao,Shuai Liu,You Zhang,Zihui Yuan,Xiaobo Huang,Cornelis F. De Hoop,Xiaopeng Peng,Xingyan Huang +10 more
TL;DR: In this article , a gel adsorbent with a high-adsorption performance on methylene blue (MB) and Cu(II) was prepared from bamboo nanocellulose (BCNF) and montmorillonite nanosheet (MMTNS) cross-linked by polyethyleneimine (PEI).
Overexpression of a gibberellin 20-oxidase gene in poplar xylem led to an increase in the size of nanocellulose fibrils and improved paper properties.
Xiaopeng Peng,Botong Tong,Jongcheol Lee,Kun Wang,Xiaojuan Yu,Xiong Huang,Jia-Long Wen,Mohamadamin Makarem,Hongying Pang,Xiaojing Yan,Shuangquan Yao,Fachuang Lu,Baichen Wang,Feng Peng,John Ralph,Seong Hoon Kim,Ronald R. Sederoff,Quanzi Li +17 more
TL;DR: In this article , the authors reported the generation of transgenic hybrid poplar overexpressing the Arabidopsis gibberellin 20-oxidase1 gene driven by a xylem-specific promoter to increase GA biosynthesis in wood.
