Technological or social? Influencing factors and mechanisms of the psychological digital divide in rural Chinese elderly

Background: This cross-sectional survey investigated the knowledge, attitudes, and coverage of recommended vaccinations among a random sample of patients with chronic medical conditions, at higher risk of vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs), in Italy. Methods: The survey was conducted via telephone-based interviews. Results: Multinomial regression analysis showed that the patients who believed that VPDs were severe were more likely to know one recommended vaccination; those who believed that VPDs were severe and those who were advised from a general practitioner (GP) were more likely to know two vaccinations; those who were older, graduated, with more time from diagnosis, who believed that VPDs were severe, who did not need additional information, and who were advised from a GP were more likely to know three or four vaccinations. Patients who knew at least one vaccination, who perceived themselves at risk, and who were advised from a GP were more likely to have received one vaccination; those who knew more than one vaccination and who were advised from a GP were more likely to receive two or three vaccinations. Among the unvaccinated, patients who were unmarried/not cohabiting, those who needed information, and who believed that vaccinations were useful and safe were more willing to receive the recommended vaccinations. Conclusions: Educational interventions are needed to improve the adherence of individuals with chronic medical conditions.

Knowledge, Attitudes, and Coverage of Recommended Vaccinations in Individuals with Chronic Medical Conditions: A Cross-Sectional Telephone Survey in Italy

There has been a growing concern about the influence of inclusive leadership on employee engagement in the telecommunications industry. The telecommunications industry is undergoing rapid technological advancements, leading to increased competition and pressure on employees. Creating an inclusive workplace in such a dynamic environment is essential to attracting and retaining talented professionals and driving eco-innovation for sustainable development in Industry 4.0. Despite the importance of inclusive leadership, there is dearth of studies exploring the influence of inclusive leadership on employee engagement in the telecommunications industry. Hence, this study sought to examine the influence of inclusive leadership on employee engagement in selected telecommunication companies in Namibia. A qualitative approach was adopted, where face-to-face interviews were conducted using a semi-structured interview guide. The participants (22 executives) were selected for interviews from two telecommunication companies in Namibia using a purposive sampling method. Data collection involved recording and transcribing participant interviews using Microsoft Word. Thematic analysis was conducted using NVivo 20 software. Results show the importance of empathy and non-hierarchical leadership behaviour as the most critical factor influencing team engagement and discretionary effort in the telecommunications industry in Namibia. Meanwhile, clear career advancement pathways, work autonomy, cross-departmental collaboration, and supervisory support are major contributors to employee engagement for innovative performance and sustainability in the telecommunications industry. 

Inclusive Leadership and Employee Engagement as Critical Drivers of Sustainability in Telecommunication Companies

PURPOSE OF REVIEW
We review the latest guidelines and note special considerations for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients when approaching vaccination against SARS-CoV-2, influenza, pneumococcus, herpes zoster, and potentially respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine in the future.


RECENT FINDINGS
SLE patients have unique infectious risks due to newer treatments and the nature of the disease itself. It is important to balance the benefit of additional protective immunity from updated vaccines against the possible risk of disease activity exacerbations.


SUMMARY
It is important to continuously evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of updated vaccines specifically for SLE patients. Additionally, the newly approved RSV vaccine should be considered for this population to reduce severe respiratory illness.

Vaccination updates and special considerations for systemic lupus erythematosus patients.

Abstract Background Catastrophic health expenditure (CHE) has a considerable impact on older people in later life, but little is known about the relationship between catastrophic health expenditure and health-related quality of life (HRQOL). The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between catastrophic health expenditure and health-related quality of life in older people, and to explore whether the daily care provided by adult children is a moderator in this relationship. Methods Data from the sixth National Health Services Survey in Shandong Province, China. The sample consisted of 8599 elderly people (age ≥ 60 years; 51.7% of female). Health-related quality of life was measured by the health utility value of EQ-5D-3 L. Interaction effects were analyzed using Tobit regression models and marginal effects analysis. Results The catastrophic health expenditure prevalence was 60.5% among older people in Shandong, China. catastrophic health expenditure was significantly associated with lower health-related quality of life ( β = − 0.142, P &lt; 0.001). We found that adult children providing daily care services to their parents mitigated the effect of catastrophic health expenditure on health-related quality of life among older people ( β = 0.027, P = 0.040). Conclusions Our findings suggested that catastrophic health expenditure was associated with health-related quality of life and the caring role of older adult children moderated this relationship. Reducing the damage caused by catastrophic health expenditure helps to improve health-related quality of life in older people. Adult children should increase intergenerational contact, provide timely financial and emotional support to reduce the negative impact of catastrophic health expenditure on health-related quality of life. 

Catastrophic health expenditure and health-related quality of life among older adults in Shandong, China: the moderation effect of daily care by adult children

Introduction Vaccination is the most effective measure for prevention against infectious diseases in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Therefore, it is important to know SLE patients' attitudes toward influenza and pneumococcal vaccination. This study aimed to investigate the attitude toward influenza and pneumococcal vaccination among SLE patients in Southwest China and its influencing factors. Methods A web-based questionnaire was conducted to collect data regarding SLE patients' demographics, history of infections, medications, comorbidities, attitudes toward infection and vaccination, rates of influenza and pneumococcal vaccination, and role of health professionals in promoting vaccination. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were conducted to assess the vaccination willingness-associated factors. Results A total of 251 patients participated in the survey and 240 questionnaires were completed and statistically analyzed. The influenza and pneumococcal vaccination rates were 8.3 and 1.7%, respectively. The top three reasons for non-vaccination were worrying about the SLE exacerbation or flare resulting from the vaccine or its adjuvants, being concerned about adverse events, and the lack of awareness of vaccine availability. More than half of the participants were willing to be vaccinated against influenza (56.2%) and pneumococcus (52.9%). Factors associated to the willingness to receive the influenza vaccine and pneumococcal vaccine were being afraid of infection, believing in the efficacy of influenza vaccination, lower family income, less perceived care from family members, perceived susceptibility to pneumococcal infection, and perceiving influenza and pneumococcal vaccination as beneficial for health. Conclusions The influenza and pneumococcal vaccination rates are low among SLE patients in Southwest China. The positive perspective of vaccination on health represented the most impacting factor on their willingness to undergo influenza and pneumococcal vaccination. Non-vaccinated patients were mainly concerned about exacerbation of the disease or adverse events caused by vaccines. It is important to improve the compliance with the guideline-recommended roles of health professionals and to promote the collaboration between rheumatology and primary care teams.

A survey of systemic lupus erythematosus patients' attitudes toward influenza and pneumococcal vaccination in Southwest China

From the perspective of informal social support, this paper analysed the impact of factors such as "Relationship with spouse", "Relationship with Children", "Financial support from children", "Sibling support", "Support from other friends and relatives" and "Borrowing costs" on the health poverty vulnerability of elderly people in rural China.Based on the data of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) in 2018, the vulnerability of the rural elderly to health poverty was measured from two dimensions of health status and influencing factors of health status by the three-stage feasible generalized least square method. A quantile regression model was used to analyse the impact of six variables in the informal social support network on health poverty vulnerability: "Relationship with spouse", "Relationship with children", "Financial support from children", " Sibling support", " Support from other friends and relatives", and "Borrowing costs".When the poverty line standards were 2995 CNY/year and 4589 CNY/year, the health poverty vulnerability of the elderly population in rural China was 0.397 and 0.598 in 2018. In the analysis of informal social support, factors such as the relationship with spouse, relationship with children, borrowing costs, support from other friends and relatives, and sibling support had different impacts on the health poverty vulnerability of the rural elderly, who were classified into three groups according to their different vulnerabilities.According to the analysis of the 2018 CHARLS database, the health poverty vulnerability of the elderly population was related to the informal social support network, and it is necessary to pay attention to the role of informal channels such as children, spouses, relatives and friends in daily care and financial support for rural elderly individuals. Meanwhile, the government and other formal organizations should also give full play to their supporting role for elderly individuals, who are highly vulnerable to health poverty, and their families.

The impact of informal social support on the health poverty vulnerability of the elderly in rural China: based on 2018 CHARLS data

Benevolent leadership is common in organizations, including hospitals, and is known to have positive effects on employees. Yet, nursing literature lacks sufficient research on its relationships with nurses' behavior.In March to April 2022, a cross-sectional study was carried out involving 320 nurses employed across various hospitals in Sichuan Province, China. Benevolent leadership, affective commitment, work engagement, and helping behavior were evaluated using the Benevolent Leadership Scale, Affective Commitment Scale, Work Engagement Scale, and Helping Behavior Questionnaire, respectively. The study employed structural equation model and the bootstrap method to investigate the proposed relationships.The SEM analysis results indicated a positive association between benevolent leadership and several outcomes among nurses. Specifically, benevolent leadership was found to be positively associated with nurses' affective commitment (β = 0.58, p < .001), work engagement (β = 0.02, p < .001), and helping behavior (β = 0.17, p = .001). Additionally, there was a significant indirect effect between benevolent leadership and nurses' work engagement through affective commitment (β = 0.08, p = .007) as well as between benevolent leadership and helping behavior through affective commitment (β = 0.16, p < .001).This study's findings emphasize the crucial role of benevolent leadership in fostering nurses' positive attitudes and behaviors in the workplace. Hospital administrators could promote the benevolent leadership of head nurses to enhance nurses' affective commitment, work engagement, and helping behaviors.
