With Network Mobility Basic Support Protocol (NEMO BSP), each communication should pass via the home agents of all mobile routers earlier reaching their destination at the time of frequent movement among the inter-technology handoff. This eventually results in performance deterioration of the real time application scenarios conducted on mobile nodes. Accordingly, applying the multihoming technique at any place, anywhere to provide uninterrupted internet connection in NEMO is becoming a significant area for current researchers. Although multiple care-of address registration between mobile routers along with its home agents can overcome some of the multihoming issues for NEMO, one still requires a dynamic flow redirection mechanism to support mobility management in NEMO. With the intention of reducing handoff delay, a novel multihoming-based flow mobility scheme on the PMIPv6 domain in NEMO (MF-PNEMO) is proposed in this paper. In addition, the performance of the MF-PNEMO scheme is evaluated through a numerical approach. The evaluation results confirms that the MF-PNEMO scheme outperforms the standard NEMO BSP as well as fast-proxy NEMO (FPNEMO) concerning handoff delay during inter-technology handoff.

Towards seamless inter-technology handovers in vehicular IPv6 communications

In order to support mobile network, a management mechanism of Network Mobility Basic Support Protocol (NEMO BSP) has been standardized by Information Engineering Task Force (IETF). NEMO BSP is an extension of Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6) and inherits all the shortcomings like higher handoff latency, packet loss etc. As Network Mobility (NEMO) is engaged to manage the movement of Mobile Router (MR) and it's Mobile Network Nodes (MNNs) during handoff, it is very important to improve the performance of mobility management protocol to achieve continuous Internet connectivity with lower delay and packet loss in NEMO environment. When a change in point of attachment of the mobile network is accompanied by a sudden burst of signaling messages, "Signaling Storm" occurs and it ultimately results in temporary congestion, handoff delays, or even packet loss. This effect is especially noteworthy for wireless environment where bandwidth is relatively limited. Therefore providing uninterrupted Internet connection through applying multihoming technique in NEMO is becoming most significant areas for current researchers. The purpose of this paper is to give a general overview on existing mobility management approaches which enable multihoming and network based mobility protocol with NEMO in an integrated manner. Furthermore, it highlights the strengths and the limitations of these schemes for future analysis.

Multihoming based mobility management scheme in NEMO: A qualitative and quantitative analysis

This study proposes a novel embedded worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX)-based vehicular router, with a network mobility architecture, that promotes the Telematics services for ubiquitous/pervasive computing environment anytime and anywhere. Each Telematics user processes the handoff procedure with the mobile Internet protocol mechanism. Hence, the proposed WiMAX-based vehicular router can process multiple Telematics users for handoff procedures simultaneously. This study explores and analyses network performances in terms of packet loss, round-trip time (RTT) and handoff latency. The embedded WiMAX-based vehicular router has a packet loss about 36% lower, and average RTT is approximately 34% lower than the traditional wireless fidelity-based vehicular router. The handoff latency analysis indicates that the embedded WiMAX vehicular router has better performance using the mobile network with the embedded router and more than two Telematics users.

Mobility management is characterized into two sections are mainly location management as well as handoff management. The previous one focuses on location updates though the later one oversees consistent Internet availability while the Mobile Router (MR) diverges its point of attachment during movement to the new network. Subsequently, recurrent movement of the Mobile Routers (MR) becomes one of the noteworthy characteristics in mobile networks. Since, as per the standard Network Mobility Basic Support Protocol (NEMO BSP), the MR uses single interface to connect to the new access network. MR needs altering its point of attachment to the network once it moves to the new access networks. This leads to decrease network performance, scalability issues as well as extra signaling overhead that results in higher handoff delay, packet loss, mobility anchor load and total handoff cost (signaling cost, packet delivery cost and energy consumption cost respectively). Consequently, this paper proposed a resource efficient Mobility Management- scheme to analyze handoff performance in PNEMO (MM-PNEMO). From that point onward, signifies a comparative study among the MM-PNEMO, NEMO BSP, and PNEMO.
