Considering the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and their potential implications for the higher education sector, this article seeks to critically evaluate the strategic adoption of AI in the framework of “smart universities”. We envisage these innovative institutions as the imminent evolution in higher education, harnessing AI and quantum technologies to reshape academic and administrative processes. The core presumption is that through such integration, universities can achieve personalized learning trajectories, enhanced accessibility, economic efficiency, and a boost in overall operational performance. However, venturing into this new educational paradigm necessitates a thorough exploration of potential pitfalls, including questions surrounding educational quality, potential job losses, risks of bias, privacy breaches, and safety concerns. Our primary objective is to offer a balanced assessment to aid stakeholders in making informed strategic decisions about endorsing and advancing the smart university model. A pivotal factor in this discourse is the acceptance of qualifications from AI-enriched institutions by employers, a variable that may drastically redefine the education sector’s trajectory. Within the context of a comprehensive analysis of its broader societal impact, this article also delves into the ramifications of AI-driven innovations for historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs).

The Associations Between Parental Phubbing, Adolescent Phubbing, and Adolescents’ Adjustments: A Cross-Lagged Panel Network Analysis

Parental phubbing behavior is a significant factor in predicting adolescent smartphone dependence, but prior research has predominantly focused on a unidirectional perspective from the child&amp;#039;s viewpoint, overlooking potential perceptual differences between parents and their children regarding parental phubbing. Therefore, are there differences in the perceptions of parental phubbing between parents and their children? Based on the &amp;quot;Discrepancy-Maladaptive&amp;quot; hypothesis, the presence of perceptual discrepancies in family factors can lead to adverse developmental outcomes in children. Does the parent-child perceptual discrepancy in parental phubbing influence adolescent smartphone dependence? And what role does parent-child relationship play in this context? This study selected 728 families from a middle school in Wuhan, and surveys were administered to both children and parents. The findings reveal: (1) There exist significant parent-child perceptual discrepancies in parental phubbing. (2) Parent-child perceptual discrepancies in parental phubbing significantly positively predict adolescent smartphone dependence and negatively predict parent-child relationships, while parent-child relationships significantly negatively predict adolescent smartphone dependence. (3) The parent-child relationship plays a mediating role between parent-child perceptual differences in parental phubbing behavior and adolescent smartphone dependence. 

Discrepancies in Adolescent–Parent Perceptions of the Parental Phubbing and Their Relevance to Adolescent Smartphone Dependence: The Mediating Role of Parent-Child Relationship

The ongoing debate about whether artificial intelligence (AI) is a gift or a curse to humanity is explored in this study from a sociological perspective. The study examines how AI simplifies human work but devalues creativity, intuition, emotion, and consciousness, ultimately transforming society. The research suggests that while the challenges of AI can be overcome, three aspects of human cognition are difficult to replace: curiosity, humility, and emotional intelligence. On a social level, AI cannot replace initiatives for cooperation, cultural awareness, and encouragement to be part of society (sense of socialization). The study emphasizes the need for values, rules, and discourse. AI must be based on human rights, democracy, inclusion and diversity. It strengthens and enhances the discourse and practice of digital humanism and post-humanism. It also highlights the importance of incorporating religious values, local wisdom, and rules or policies to mitigate and resolve AI risks. The conclusion is that AI is not inherently a threat to humanity, but rather the greatest threat is humanity itself. The research emphasizes the need for collective feedback and understanding to improve AI systems through collaboration, as the road is long and full of surprises and challenges.

The turning point of civilization: Sociological perspective toward artificial intelligence on modern humanity

Background: During the COVID-19 pandemic, depressive symptoms, a common emotional problem among adolescents, have become more prominent. Regarding the influencing factors of adolescent depressive symptoms, it is widely accepted that parents’ problematic cellphone use around the family (specifically parental phubbing) is a strong predictive factor for the development of depressive symptoms among adolescents. Notably, the COVID-19 pandemic caused a sharp increase in the number of individuals with depressive symptoms, and the negative consequences of parental phubbing and depressive symptoms might have been exacerbated. Accordingly, this study aimed to examine the association between parental phubbing and adolescent depressive symptoms as well as their underlying mechanism. Method: To test our hypotheses, we conducted an offline/online survey with 614 adolescents in Central China from May to June 2022, which corresponded to a period of strict lockdowns in some areas due to the outbreak of the Omicron variant. The participants completed a set of measures, including a technology interference questionnaire, a parent–child relationship scale, a self-concept clarity scale, and the depressive symptoms scale. Results: Parental phubbing was positively associated with adolescent depressive symptoms; the parent–child relationship and self-concept clarity could independently mediate this relationship; and the parent–child relationship and self-concept clarity were also serial mediators in this association. These findings extend previous research by highlighting the impact of parental technology use on their children and the underlying mechanism explaining adolescent depressive symptoms. They provide practical recommendations for parents to prioritize fostering a positive family environment and minimizing phubbing behaviors to enhance adolescent development, particularly in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the metaverse, the world is grasped more by perceptual perceptions, the objects are informational and symbolic ideas, and the subjects of grasp are increasingly becoming twin digital doppelgangers, digital beings. The metaverse will bring about the tribalization of public life and the territorialization of public space. The construction of a metaverse order is essentially a governance of the human imagination, which will require a shift in political philosophy. The metaverse is the inevitable consequence of the so-called “humanization” of technology. The increasing “staying” and “involution” of people in the world of intentionality, their domination by instrumental reason, their anti-intellectualization and their dumbing down, all of which are the paradox of “human, too human”. The interaction between individual intentionality and extensiveness, as well as the risk of serious consequences brought by technological innovation, make the individual’s free choice involve problems, so we must appeal to re-moralization, and the basis of re-moralization is individual cultivation. Philosophic workers should not only keep an open attitude, but also keep a thinking attitude towards the metaverse.

Abstract The basic problem of development is the very concept of it. Since the dawn of modern China development has gone from being seen as nothing to something; more recently, under the guidance of Marxism, the conceptualization of it has fully drawn on experiences and lessons from Western modernization and the quintessence of outstanding traditional Chinese culture, namely ‘zhong he wei yu, an suo sui sheng’ (literally meaning that ‘the world will be set in a proper order and life will be nourished when the condition of the ‘harmonious mean’ is reached, and all beings will fulfill their lives once they get comfortable with their positions’). As a result, the Sinicized Marxist concept of development has formed, which differs from that of the West and takes the being of humans as its core standpoint. The concept of development from the perspective of being emphasizes that being is the basic content of development, regards co-existence as a realistic basis of development, and aims at the pursuit of a happy, well-being life as the ultimate goal. The Sinicized Marxist concept of development is not only of great significance to the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, but also of great value to the development of Marxism and the progress of contemporary mankind.

Firstly, this paper analyzes the framework of online learning quality assessment. Then, this paper analyzes the face recognition and head pose recognition technology. Finally, some suggestions are put forward.

Study on the online learning evaluation based on 2D and 3D image processing technology
