Oxidative stress and lipid mediators induced in alveolar macrophages by ultrafine particles
Ingrid Beck-Speier,Niru Dayal,Erwin Karg,Konrad L. Maier,Gabriele Schumann,Holger Schulz,Manuela Semmler,Shinji Takenaka,Kurt Stettmaier,Wolf Bors,A.J. Ghio,James M. Samet,Joachim Heyder +12 more
TL;DR: Particle-induced formation of AA metabolites and ROS was dependent on mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase 1 activation of cytosolic phospholipase A2 (cPLA2) as shown by inhibitor studies, whereas LTB4 production and 8-isoprostane were strongly dependent on particles' oxidative potential.

Characterization of Cat-2t, a radiation-induced dominant cataract mutation in mice.
Jochen Graw,Wolf Bors,P M Gopinath,S Merkle,C. Michel,P Reitmeir,E. Schäffer,K.-H. Summer,Andrea Wulff +8 more
TL;DR: Biochemistry of the cataractous Cat-2t lenses is affected and changes of the osmotic, energy, and redox states are considered to be secondary in relation to the altered lenticular development.

Enhanced gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase expression and superoxide production in Mpv17-/- glomerulosclerosis mice.
Gunter Wagner,Kurt Stettmaier,Wolf Bors,Helmut Sies,Eva-Maria Wagner,Alexander Reuter,Hans Weiher +6 more
TL;DR: Inhibition of γglutamyl transpeptidase by acivicin reverted the lowered plasma glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase activities, indicating reciprocal control of gene expression for these enzymes.
